🫁 October is Healthy Lung Month. A great time to learn more about your lung health and the care available when you need a little extra support.

So, what does a respiratory therapist do?
Respiratory therapists are health care professionals who specialize in caring for the lungs and respiratory system. They may help patients who are experiencing breathing difficulties or managing respiratory conditions, and they can provide treatments and support to help improve breathing.

You may need respiratory therapy if you’re experiencing shortness of breath, difficulty breathing or other respiratory concerns, or if your health care team recommends respiratory care as part of your treatment.

Respiratory therapists may also perform pulmonary function testing, or PFTs, which measure how well your lungs move air and exchange oxygen. These tests can help evaluate symptoms such as shortness of breath or help monitor conditions like asthma and COPD.

Across our hospitals, respiratory therapy teams are here to help patients breathe easier and receive the care they need, close to home.

If you have concerns about your breathing or lung health, talk with your health care provider about whether respiratory care may be right for you. Schedule an appointment today: www.bannerhealth.com/physician-directory.

Take a deep breath. Take care of your lungs.
