I just wanted to give a huge shout-out to The Village Nursery. The venue is beautiful, the food is amazing, and I can't say enough nice things about the staff. In case you didn't know, they are hosting a free BBQ to show appreciation to the community; go check it out, it's very cool.
Today was a great day! We had the pleasure of volunteering alongside some great arborists at Saluting Branches 2026. A big shout-out to Devon Dunkle from All in Arbor, Tommy Merrill from Low Stump, Bill, and the Going West crew: Skyler Koelsch, Sam Wood, and Isaac Hutchinson. A huge thank you to Matt Basile and Kent for putting the event first and thinking about themselves last. Matt, I know how stressful your last couple of months have been and I know how worn out you are, but you still showed up and kept it going. Nothing but respect to you from all of us.

🌳 TREE SPOTLIGHT | THORNLESS HONEY LOCUST
Looking for a shade tree that can handle Northern Nevada? The Thornless Honey Locust is a great option for our high-desert landscape.
☀️ Handles the heat — Once established, Honey Locusts tolerate hot summers and dry conditions well.
💧 Water-wise — They’re relatively drought tolerant, making them a practical choice for Northern Nevada yards.
🌬️ Great for windy areas — Their open, flexible canopy allows wind to move through instead of catching it like a sail.
🌿 Filtered shade — The small leaves create light, dappled shade, so you still get plenty of natural light underneath the tree.
🍂 Easy fall cleanup — Those small leaflets tend to break down quickly, meaning less heavy leaf cleanup in the fall.
🌳 Fast-growing & beautiful — With the right care, a Thornless Honey Locust can grow into a large, attractive shade tree without the intimidating thorns found on wild varieties.
For Northern Nevada properties that need shade, durability, and a tree that can handle our climate, the Thornless Honey Locust deserves a spot on the list.

🌳 Looking for a beautiful, drought-friendly tree for your Northern Nevada landscape? Consider a Palo Verde! 🌳
Palo Verde trees are a great option for our high-desert climate when they’re planted in the right location. Their beautiful green bark, airy canopy, and bright yellow flowers add a unique Southwestern look without requiring the heavy watering that many traditional shade trees need.
☀️ Why we like Palo Verdes:
💧 Low water needs once established
☀️ Love full sun and heat
🌼 Produce gorgeous yellow blooms
🌿 Provide filtered shade without creating an overly dense canopy
🐝 Flowers attract bees and other pollinators
🏜️ Excellent choice for xeriscaping and water-conscious landscapes
One important consideration in Northern Nevada is winter cold. Palo Verdes are desert trees, so choosing a cold-hardy variety and planting it in a warm, protected location with good drainage is important. They aren't the right tree for every property, but in the right spot they can be a beautiful, low-water addition to your landscape.

🌳 Why Ginkgo Trees Are a Great Choice for Northern Nevada! 🍂💛
Looking for a beautiful, low-maintenance tree that can handle Northern Nevada’s challenging climate? The Ginkgo tree is definitely worth considering!
Ginkgos are incredibly tough, long-lived, and adaptable trees. Once established, they have excellent drought tolerance, making them a smart choice for our dry climate and water-conscious landscapes. 💧
Here are a few reasons to love the Ginkgo:
🍁 Stunning fall color – Their leaves turn a brilliant golden yellow before dropping, creating an incredible fall display.
☀️ Drought tolerant – Once established, Ginkgos can tolerate periods of dry conditions and require less supplemental water than many traditional landscape trees.
❄️ Cold hardy – They handle Northern Nevada’s cold winters and temperature swings very well.
🌱 Adaptable – Ginkgos can tolerate a variety of soil conditions and urban environments, making them versatile landscape trees.
🐛 Pest and disease resistant – They are generally remarkably resistant to many common tree pests and diseases.
🏡 Long-lived – Ginkgos are known for their exceptional longevity. Planting one can be an investment for generations to come.
🌳 Great shade tree – With time, they can develop into a beautiful, substantial shade tree for your property.
One tip: If you're planting a Ginkgo for the landscape, look for a male cultivar. Female trees produce fruit with a famously unpleasant odor when it falls, while male trees provide all that gorgeous foliage without the messy fruit.
For Northern Nevada, where water conservation, cold tolerance, and durability matter, the Ginkgo is a tree that deserves more attention. 🌳💛
Plant smart. Plant for our climate. And enjoy that spectacular golden fall color! 🍂

Bring bold fall color to your Northern Nevada landscape with an Autumn Blaze Maple!
This hardy, adaptable shade tree performs well in Northern Nevada when planted in a sunny location with well-draining soil and consistent irrigation - especially while its roots become established. Known for its rapid growth, it can add up to 3 feet per year in favorable conditions and eventually reach about 40-50 feet tall.
Autumn Blaze has moderate wind resistance, but it isn't the best choice for severely exposed, high-wind sites. Proper placement and early structural pruning help build stronger branch unions and reduce the risk of storm damage.
With generous summer shade and brilliant scarlet-red autumn foliage, this fast-growing maple makes a spectacular focal point for Northern Nevada yards. ❤️🍁
