The "Godfather of Sports Talk Radio" Eddie Andelman has passed away at the age 89. Not only was he a pioneer in New England media, but his innovations off the airwaves were just as significant including in the realm of combat sports. In 1991, he helped organize a professional boxing fight card at Boston University that featured standouts like Drake Thazdi, Sean Fitzgerald, Ray Oliveiira, Paul Poirier, and Peter McNeeley amongst others - many in New England title fights.

In the world of pro wrestling, he also created the concept of the "King of the Ring" tournament which would become an annual pay-per-view event in time.

Rest in Peace to a New England legend.

🥊 Undefeated heavyweights Josh Popper (7-0, 6 KO's) and Bruce Seldon Jr. (8-0, 6 KO's) weighed-in Friday ahead of their anticipated clash at The Tropicana in Atlantic City, New Jersey tonight.

🥊 This weekend is the 2026 International Boxing Hall of Fame Inductions. Here's some fun facts about this year's inductees and how they relate to New England boxing.

The legendary middleweight champion "Triple G" Gennadiy Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KO's) made one New England appearance scoring a 3rd round KO over the UK's Mathew Macklin (Career Record - 35-6, 22 KO's) at Foxwoods in Connecticut in 2013 successfully defending the WBA Middleweight title in just his third appearance in the United States. New England natives Danny O'Connor (Career Record - 31-3, 12 KO's) and Luis Rosa (Career Record - 23-1, 11 KO's) both were victorious on the undercard.

Hall of Fame inductee Antonio Tarver (Career Record - 31-6-1, 22 KO's) also appeared twice at Foxwoods in Connecticut - first winning the WBC and IBF Light Heavyweight Championships in 2003 with a unanimous decision over Montell Griffin and then again in 2007 scoring a 4th round TKO over Danny Santiago (Career Record - 34-7-1, 20 KO's).

Longtime Women's Super Bantamweight Champion and 2026 inductee Jackie Nava (Career record - 40-4-4, 16 KO's) never fought outside of her native Mexico. However, she inspired many Mexican girls to go to the gym and put on a pair of gloves - including Edith Flores who fought Miyo Yoshida (19-5, 1 KO) on the most recent Boston Boxing Promotions event earlier this year in Haverhill.

Also, cutman Russ Anber worked cuts for former Boston Boxing Promotions "Fighter of the Year" Andrii Novytskyi (Current record - 16-0, 12 KO's) as he took on Mexico's Edgar Ramirez (Current record - 11-2-1, 5 KO's) in Saudi Arabia in 2024.
