Summary of EASE Educates Program:
People with I/DD are often left out of conversations about relationships & s*x education. Talking with your young & grown children about relationships & s*x can be challenging. Parents, guardians & carers often worry whether talking about s*x gives permission & whether their children, of all ages, can be safe from harm when in a relationship.
Education about Relationships & S*x gives people with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) the ability to make informed & healthy choices, advocate for themselves, prevent abuse, enjoy healthy relationships & see themselves as s*xual beings.

The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) for the US Department of Education recently found the Virginia Department of Education was in NONCOMPLIANCE in several key areas of their implementation of Part B of the IDEA. This includes Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE), Mediation, Due Process hearings, the list goes on. As a resident and an attorney practicing in Virginia, this is both a validation of the experiences shared by many parents as well as a serious concern regarding how our cases have been handled by VDOE. We must continue to hold the State and Local Education Agencies (school districts) accountable and fight for our children's right to a Free and Appropriate Public Education.
