A lot of people think being a barista is about latte art or pulling that perfect shot. But in the bigger picture, most of the work actually feels like doing dishes. What happens to the cup after you drink from it?
I’ve been coming to terms with what service work really is. A lot of the time, it’s about consistency—making sure I’m consistent, making sure my staff are consistent, and giving people who walk into the café a warm smile.
Then the day resets, and the cycle repeats.
As much as coffee is about quality and service, it’s really about showing up—doing the dishes, mopping the floors, and getting ready for the next day
