The Multicultural Center came alive today with a captivating performance by Chilean guitarist Ricardo Cárdenas. Ricardo is not just a guitarist, but also a composer and educator, whose work bridges cultures through classical guitar and Latin American music.

Ricardo Cárdenas is based in Eugene, Oregon, and has collaborated with internationally recognized artists including Thomas Mapfumo, Steve Perry, and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno. His original compositions have been featured in theater and documentary film, and he performs widely across Oregon. In addition to his performance career, he is dedicated to teaching classical guitar and Latin American music in both school and private settings.

Graduate profile: Candy Nease. Candy is graduating this Saturday with an Associate in Early Childhood Education. She had this to say about her time at Lane:

"I have always wanted to be a teacher, and now I can. My favorite memory at Lane was my first ever college class, Writing 115, with Dr. K. Shull. So many memories were made with my writing, and especially my connection with the instructor and classmates! I felt liked I belonged."

Congrats to Candy and all our other grads!

For Jeff Harrison’s Native American Literature course, students finished the term with a creative project at Longhouse. The students could create anything related to our readings, so student Tyler Wright painted his horses in traditional symbols and explained the markings to his classmates.

Other student presentations included art projects (ceramics, stained glass, and illustrations), poetry, and even a fancy-dance shawl made for a student's to start dancing at pow wows.

Lane Community College’s Titans baseball team capped off an outstanding season with a second-place finish at the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Championships. Their postseason run began after they placed second in the Southern Region, earned the opportunity to host the Super Regionals on campus, and defeated Bellevue College to advance to the NWAC Championship Tournament in Longview, Washington.

Once there, the Titans kept the momentum going, winning their first three games to reach the championship game, and ultimately finishing second after a hard-fought matchup with host Lower Columbia College. That finish marks the program’s best result in over 20 years, since winning the NWAC championship in 2004. This remarkable achievement reflects the dedication of Head Coach Josh Blunt, his assistant coaches, and the student-athletes.

Director of Athletics Greg Sheley said the team’s success reflects “what happens when Lane invests in its students.” The college’s Athletics program emphasizes academic success, personal growth, community support, career development, and athletic excellence, and its investment in a new turf baseball field, supported by the bond passed in May 2020, is helping set the stage for a strong future for LCC Baseball.

Go Titans!
