Today Redmond Fire & Rescue and Cloverdale Fire District were at ESF’s training facility for live fire training. Almost 30 years ago a vision was set for 20 acres of former industrial land at 2nd & Chambers in Eugene. With a voter approved bond, a regional training facility was built that 3 decades later still serves as a premier training site in the NW. in addition to over 90,000 hours of ESF training in the past year, we have welcomed firefighters from Bend, Medford, Redmond, Cloverdale and North Bend.

Today at ESF, we had a swearing-in that rarely happens here. Four firefighters from around western Oregon brought their considerable skills and experience to join our team. They completed an accelerated orientation exceptionally well and are now ready to join their new crews on the line. Highly skilled and trained firefighters are in high demand up and down the West Coast and being able to bring our newest teammates into the department is a huge win.

Just after 4:30 this morning Ladder 6 from the Sheldon station was dispatched to a reported electrical fire at the Taco Bell on Chad Drive in Eugene. The crew arrived to find light smoke from the building. They declared a working fire and upgraded the response to a full first alarm.
L6 quickly opened up the wall and applied water to the fire and kept the fire from extending to the rest of the building.
The fire is under control, all employees were accounted for with no reported injuries.

In cooperation with the Skinner Butte parking lot and summit road will be closed until sometime in October. There has been a history of illegal firework activity and brush fires, particularly during the summer season. Closing this area to vehicles helps reduce that risk.
The summit will remain accessible to pedestrians and cyclists (no e-motorcycles) by numerous trails and the paved road that leads to the summit.

Eugene, OR. Eugene Springfield Fire was called to an apartment fire in Eugene’s Jefferson Westside neighborhood just after 7 AM on Friday morning. A resident pulled the fire alarm and called 911 to report smoke from a first floor apartment at the Jade West Apartments located at 871 W 8th Ave. The first unit arrived in 3 minutes to find dark smoke from an apartment with other residents reporting a potential victim. The door was forced and search and fire attack occurred simultaneously. There were no victims located in the apartment and the fire was contained to that apartment. Adjacent apartments experienced smoke intrusion which crews used fans to address. There were no injuries reported and the cause is under investigation. Thanks to the quick thinking resident pulling the alarm, this incident could have been much worse.
