This past weekend, I attended one such full day event. I was one of 20 people laying blindfolded on a foam pad under the supervision of a "sitter": another attendee who was armed with a pillow should I become too animated and need ushered by to the safety of my foam pad.🛏

👉I breathed in the prescribed manner on & off for 3hrs straight. All the while I was showered in LOUD music & the shouts & cries of fellow practitioners. 😲
👉I felt tingly sensations in my hands and belly (similar to side-effects from hyperventilation). 🤤
👉Alas, hallucinations and psycho-emotional breakthroughs evaded me.😕

While my results were unremarkable, I suspect it's not all hocus-pocus. When it was my turn to be the sitter, I saw people screaming, flailing, & other signs of having a deeply emotional experience. I would need to try it a few more times before I could form a strong opinion.

The way to know you have gone too far is to go too far. At the boundary between the known and the unknown, either you leap or you retreat.

You can , and you must, define your own journey. Learn from others, but be aware of the solitude of your actions. This is your life. Do not give it away.

Your practice should rely on risk. If you do not know where to go, go in the direction of greater risk. Your willingness to take risks for what you know to be right is a measure of your courage and of your integrity.

Constantly push against yourself and against what you have been. Nothing good comes without a rupture, without a tear in your view of the world. Cultivate those ruptures. A linear path will not take you where you need to go - some fracture has to happen.

Launch yourself recklessly towards your dreams. Wake up and be desperate. Desperation demands action. As an artist, you must always be desperate. Try anything. Be careful with your calculations. Calculations become a habit. A calculated life is seldom radiant.

Compromises allow you to move in the world, but they are not helpful in art. Be extreme. Be unreasonable.
