Today marks three years since the October 7 attacks.
At the Farm, our hearts still ache for every single human life impacted by this tragedy.

Guided by the Jewish belief in the infinite worth of every human life, we invite you to celebrate the gift of life and the sacredness of Jewish traditions with us on the Farm.

This past Shabbat, we did just that.

We celebrated an ancient Jewish agricultural festival - Sukkot - under the open sky with live music, Farm tours, and community!

Years later, the sorrow remains, yet so does the strength of our spirit and our resolve to revere life.

Share a long table under the open sky with a menu from our friends at One Kitchen Collaborative, featuring produce grown right here on the Farm.

If there were one Jewish holiday made for the Farm, it might just be Sukkot. 🌿

The Jewish holiday of Sukkot is an ancient harvest festival, celebrated by gathering outdoors in a temporary structure called a sukkah. For seven days, Jewish tradition asks people to step outside the permanence of their homes, look up through a roof of branches to the sky, welcome guests, share food, and celebrate the abundance of the harvest.

In so many ways, Sukkot brings together what Coastal Roots Farm holds dear: gratitude for what the earth provides, responsibility to share that abundance, hospitality toward the stranger, and the reminder that people are part of nature, not separate from it.

A sukkah is intentionally temporary and exposed to the elements. It asks those who enter to dwell a little more lightly, to notice the wind and stars, and to remember how much life depends on land, water, weather, and one another.

Harvest. Hospitality. Humility. Joy. For a Jewish community farm, it doesn’t get much more quintessential than Sukkot.

Some people tease that Jewish holidays either involve a feast or a fast.

On Yom Kippur, we fast. The absence of food invites us to pay closer attention to what sustains us and creates space for teshuvah, a Hebrew word often translated as repentance, but which literally means “return.”

Through the lens of Earth-Based Judaism, that return can extend to our relationship with the land. Rebuilding degraded soil is an act of repair, reminding us that our health is deeply connected to the health of the adamah, the earth.

Yom Kippur invites us to consider what needs tending in our own lives, our communities, and our relationship with the Earth.
