Have you ever considered getting more active with the Democratic Party? To have the chance to shape policy, vote to endorse candidates, and be more “in the know” about what is going on?

Your chance to do this is NOW (and the Deadline to apply is this Thursday, December 11th at 5 pm).

Every two years the California Democratic Party (CDP) holds an election in each Assembly District for members of the DSCC (Democratic State Central Committee) also known as Convention Delegates. The Assembly District Election Meetings (ADEMs) elect 7 men and 7 women to become Delegates who attend the 2015 CDP Convention in Anaheim on May 15-17, 2015 and the February 26-28, 2016 CDP Convention in San Jose.

As a delegate you will get to hear from the State office holders such as the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and others, and since a Presidential election is coming up without an incumbent, you may hear from potential candidates for President and Vice President. You will have the opportunity to attend Committee and Caucus meetings, and you will get to vote for various Propositions and CDP Officers such as Caucus Chairs and Regional Directors.

If you want to run, or have a friend who is a registered Democrat that would like to run, determine what Assembly District you are in, write up a statement as to why you wish to serve, and head to http://www.cadem.org/adem to apply and to learn more about becoming a delegate.

Please note, there is some cost involved with being a delegate, the largest being travel costs for attending conventions.

If you’re not sure which Assembly District (AD) you are in, here are the districts in the 49th Congressional District where I ran for Congress:

- The southern portion, which is currently served by Toni Atkins, is AD 78
- North San Diego County, served by Rocky Chavez, is AD 76
- South Orange County, currently served by Diane Harkey, is AD 73

Thank you for the generous investment of your time, hard work, contributions, perseverance and your vote. I am filled with gratitude for all of you who stepped forward to assist with my campaign to represent you in the 49th District.

I’m extremely proud of the campaign we ran. We couldn’t have done it without our team of volunteers and contributors. We can be proud that we all came together for a common goal, worked hard and accomplished a great deal.

Your involvement made possible some very exciting accomplishments, including some incredible endorsements. Notably, we received contributions from every single state in the nation.

Our campaign brought together our community, strengthened existing networks and created new ones. We are well positioned to continue fighting for the present needs and the future of our community.

We built upon previous campaigns, relying upon the wisdom and experience of our community’s role models and mentors. We proved that our grassroots community is capable of extraordinary feats when we work together toward our common goals.

This election is not the end of our campaign – it’s only the beginning. Our team’s dedicated effort and involvement in the civic process has been extraordinarily inspiring. Your efforts have renewed my faith in the opportunities that are possible with collective effort.

I am eager to continue working with you for a brighter future. Over the coming weeks we’ll be debriefing, reflecting and planning our next steps as we continue seeking to bring the voices of the people of the 49th district to Washington DC.

We phone banked all day today, and we're continuing tonight for just one more hour. Thank you, again, to all the wonderful campaign and election volunteers, individuals and organizations that support us, other candidates and voters; working hard at our office, in their homes, wherever they happen to be helping to get out the vote! We so appreciate all the effort encouraging voters to get to the polls today, assisting them to make final voting decisions, to locate their polling place or find a ride to the polls... thank you so much! Here's a few pictures from our office late today.

Dave stopped by the polls today in Vista to drop off his mail ballot. His parents, visiting from Florida, came along for the exciting event.

We're a little less than 2 hours away! Polls close at 8 pm tonight. After you've voted message your friends, neighbors, relatives and make sure they've voted too! Join us at Vista Village Pub starting at 8 pm for our Watch Party!

Still have your vote-by-mail ballot? You can turn in your ballot at any polling station in your county on Election Day. Visit www.cadem.org/PollFinder to find a polling station near you and get your personalized endorsements.

Polls are open from 7 am - 8 pm Tuesday. You can take your vote-by-mail ballot to any polling place (do not mail it). If you've misplaced or somehow ruined your ballot you can still vote at a polling place on Tuesday. And, to answer a commonly asked question: voters are not required to vote for every candidate/proposition/measure for the ballot to be counted as valid. On the eve of election night we're sending out a huge, heartfelt thank you to our campaign volunteers. And, as we close the day we'd like to recognize and thank three very special GOTV volunteers: Mr. and Mrs. Peiser, Dave's parents, visiting from Florida, who have been canvassing and phone banking non-stop since their arrival last week; and a warm thank you to Fred Chambers of Carlsbad, and his amazing Guide Dog, Churchill. What an inspiration!
