Please don’t buy the bins before you do a review of your items 📣
When we start going through a drawer or a closet, the temptation is to jump straight to organizing — labels, baskets, the pretty pantry vibes. Because that’s the fun part! But if you organize before you declutter, all you’re doing is putting chaos into nicer containers.
Declutter first. Always. Go through it, decide what stays, then put it back the best you can. That alone will give you a sense of accomplishment. The bins can come later, once you actually know what needs to fit in them 💫
Tame the Chaos is a podcast about the mindset side of organizing, hosted by San Diego professional organizer Elyse Metzger. New episodes every other week.

Looking back at last week. A much needed break and trip back home. We took a morning to do a little fishing. Didn’t catch anything 😂 But the early drive was worth the gorgeous backdrop.
No cell service either. But that was the magic 💫
While I was walking my dog, a bird flew right in front of me, landed on a branch and sung some songs 😍
Just a little reminder to take breaks, enjoy nature and find joy in the simple things ♥️
Is there an area of your home that you avoid? 🤔
And just as important… are there rooms do you can’t wait to be in after a long day? Notice any spaces that make you feel really good or fill you with anxiety?
These aren’t trick questions. Because sometimes the rooms we skip over, the closets we keep closed, the garages we pretend don’t exist — they’re telling us something. And so are the rooms we love. Both answers are telling you something about what’s going on inside yourself.
Your space and your mental state are more connected than you think. Press play and sit with these questions for a few minutes.

The ex-wife showed up. The daughter showed up. The son was on the phone — that’s how much this moment meant to all of them.
Our team came in, worked alongside the family, and got it cleared in one day. The ex-wife took a few things to her own unit. He took two pictures. The rest went to donation and the dump.
Along the way, old memories came up. Cherished, appreciated, and then released.
It was a full family effort, and we were honored to be part of it 🫶
If you or someone you know has a storage unit that needs a clean out, send us a message 📩 We handle the heavy lifting.

Your space holds more than just your stuff. It holds your story.
We spent months working alongside a client going through one of the hardest seasons of her life.
Room by room, something shifted. The grief started making room for excitement. For possibility. For her 🫶
That’s the real work of organizing. And it never gets old to witness.
Your space holds your story. And sometimes, changing it is the first step to writing a new chapter. 🤍

Have you ever felt like your home is working against you?
Your home might be affecting your mental health more than you realize.
In this clip, I’m getting real about how our old house was affecting my mental state, my business focus, and honestly — my happiness.
When a space doesn’t fit your life, it tends to show up in other aspects (parts) of your life. Here’s what changed when we found a home that finally fit 💗
I was feeling out of sync with myself and couldn’t figure out why — until I realized I was constantly fighting against my space instead of living in it.
When your home doesn’t fit your life, everything feels harder. Your focus, your mood, your energy. All of it.
This is why I talk about so much more than organizing tips.

Stop waiting for that Saturday where you magically have four hours to clean out your pantry and organize it to perfection...
News flash: that Saturday is probably not coming.
Start where you are. Not where you think you should be.
Pick a drawer. Set a timer for five minutes. Go through it. You don’t even have to organize it. Just pull out what needs to be thrown away. That’s it. That’s starting!
We spend so much time planning and overthinking and waiting for the right moment that we never actually begin. The mess isn’t really the problem. The waiting is.
What’s one drawer you could tackle in the next five minutes?

He’s been paying for a storage unit for over 30 years 😳
Our team spent one full day sorting, hauling, and making decisions. By the end, he walked away with two pictures.
Sometimes the most meaningful thing we do isn’t organizing a home, storage unit or whatever physical space. It’s helping someone finally close a chapter they’ve been carrying for decades 🫶
If you have a space that’s been waiting to be transformed, send us a DM 📩 We’re based in North County San Diego and we work all over the county.

I had to let go of the idea that my house was going to be 100% organized all of the time. And honestly? That was one of the best things I ever did.
Instead of trying to tackle everything, I focused on what was bothering me most. Pantry out of sorts? Fix the pantry. Done. Move on. Don’t look at the rest.
And by doing that I got something I hadn’t had in a while. More me time. More time with my friends, my family, my growing child.
You cannot have a 100% home. Not all of the time. And the sooner you give yourself permission to pick your battles, the lighter everything feels.
What’s the one space that’s been bothering you most lately?

This year taught me a lot about holding on to things that weren’t ever meant to be.
I was focused too much on perfection, leading to decisions made out of fear instead of alignment with my life.
I’m heading into 2026 lighter. Not because everything is figured out, but because I’m done carrying what was never mine to hold.
Your clutter isn’t just physical. It’s the expectations, the overthinking, the waiting. You’re allowed to let go of that too.
What are you leaving behind from this past year?
