I walked into the kitchen that morning and saw absolute chaos. Dishes, a popped balloon, leaves the dog tracked in, lemons all over the counter.

My husband looked around and saw a normal Tuesday 👀

I was surprised when we actually talked about it — he DID notice. He just wasn’t bothered. No ignoring it, just filing it under “temporary.” Way different from how i saw it 🤔

I asked my husband what would help us keep our home organized. His answer was simple...

Basically, have a home for everything 💡

He pointed to our front entryway table. Everyone knows where their stuff goes. Scissors, p**p bags, my son’s things. “It just works.”

Because, if all of us living in the same household knows the basic system, then we’re all able to follow it. It just sticks!

“We’re creatures of habit. You just tell us certain things a bunch of times.”

He’s not wrong 🤷‍♀️

I spend a lot of time talking about what bothers ME about our house. The clutter, the way things get put back wrong, drawers left open a crack.

But what happens when I asked my husband — what bothers HIM?

The answer was more relatable than I expected.

There’s something kind of equalizing about that. We’re both noticing things. We’re both getting triggered by stuff. Just not triggered in the same way. I realized we both care, just handle it differently.

We organized the kid spaces, closets and bathrooms. When she saw what we did, she loved it and wanted us to keep going. So we did — a little of the kitchen, and her pantry too 🙌

We already knew how she wanted her home to feel: functional, labeled, and easy to maintain.

A week after we left, we got a follow up message from our client that “the house is so much easier to maintain that her and her husband could have never pulled off what we did” in those three days.

This is exactly why we love what we do — saving our clients’ time, energy, money, and sanity. Mostly their sanity 😂

I’m a professional organizer and my house isn’t as organized as I’d like it to be. But letting go of expectations (the ones that didn’t matter) made all the difference.

Perfectionism isn’t just about how things look. It’s about the mental load it takes managing that “perfection”. I stopped trying to have everything perfect. And what I got in return was peace of mind 💫
