The September newsletter is out! ✏️

The school supply lists went around here a few weeks ago, and I always find them quietly inspiring. Somebody sits down, thinks about the year ahead, and decides exactly what's needed to do it well.

Your business deserves the same list.

Inside this month: who you actually want as clients, what QuickBooks Online can and can't do for your taxes, what changed this month about AI reaching into your books, and something new we've built for the people who send business our way.

Get the September issue: https://bit.ly/RSSeptember26

What's the one thing you'd take away from your business this quarter?

09/29/2026

If you track mileage for taxes, 2026 is not a one-rate year. 🚗

The IRS changed the rate mid-stream, so your log has to be split at July 1. Worth sorting out now, while you can still reconstruct where you actually went. Doing it in April from memory usually ends with someone claiming less than they earned.

Details here: https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/standard-mileage-rates

Do you log your miles as you go, or rebuild it all at year end? No judgment here. I suspect I know the answer for most of us.

Something new this month, and it's been a long time coming. 💚

Most of our best clients came to us because somebody they trusted made an introduction. We've never had a proper way to say thank you for that. Now we do.

Introduce us to a business owner who's carrying the weight you used to carry: taxes that feel like a scramble, numbers they don't fully trust, cash flow that makes every decision feel risky. When they become an ongoing client and stay with us six months, you get $500.

Clarity creates confidence. Pass it on.

Who do you know who's carrying that right now?

RECONCILED SOLUTIONS | Financial Confidence Referral Program - Reconciled Solutions You know what it feels like to finally trust your numbers. If you know a business owner still carrying that weight, you can hand them the clarity and confidence you already have.

I'll be at ProfitCon this week! 🎟️

This year's theme is The Architecture of Excellence, and I go for the same reason every year: I come home with new ideas, clarity on things I want to change, and the energy that you can only find from being in the same room with a group of talented and inspiring people.

If you're going to be there, I would genuinely love to say hello.

Anyone else going?

The Self-Employed tax setup I wish everyone had year one 09/19/2026

Nobody is withholding anything for you anymore.

That's the sentence I wish someone had said plainly to every business owner in their first year. The day you went out on your own, an invisible system became your job.

I wrote up the QuickBooks Online setup that turns tax season into a routine instead of a scramble, and just as importantly, the parts the software genuinely can't do for you.

What's the one part of tax time that costs you the most sleep?

The Self-Employed tax setup I wish everyone had year one When you had a W-2, a system took taxes out before you ever saw the money. Here's the Self-Employed tax setup I wish everyone had year one.

There's a moment in the Pumpkin Plan that stops people cold, and it's not the growth part.

It's when you look honestly at your client list and admit that a few of them are costing you more than they pay.

Not bad people. Usually lovely people. But the ones who need three follow-ups for every deliverable, who negotiate every invoice, who take the energy you needed for the work that actually grows the business.

Growth usually comes from doing more for your best clients, not from finding more clients. Most owners have the ratio backwards, and the numbers will show you which is which if you ask them.

September is a good month for this. You have enough of the year behind you to see the pattern, and enough ahead to act on it.

Who's your best client, and what would it look like to build the next year around more people like them?

Not sure which clients are actually profitable? That's exactly what we dig into: https://reconciledsolutions.net/contact-us/

From Startup to Grown Up: Legal, Financial & Branding for a Thriving DPC 09/08/2026

Ask an attorney about your entity and you'll get a legal answer. Ask an accountant and you'll get a tax answer. Ask a brand person and they'll want to know who you're trying to reach.

All three will be right. None of them will be complete.

That's the thing we run into constantly in first conversations with DPC and concierge physicians. These questions are tangled together. Your entity shapes what you can pay yourself. What you pay yourself shapes what your membership has to be priced at. Your pricing shapes who walks through the door and what they expect when they get there. Pull one thread and the other two move.

So we're offering you all three perspectives in one session.

This Friday, September 11 at 10:30 AM CDT, our own Angie Noll is joining healthcare attorney Stephanie Posey and branding specialist Trina Fisher for a free hour covering all three foundations at once. It's built for physicians building or growing a DPC or concierge practice.

Save your seat for Friday, September 11 at 10:30 AM CDT: https://loom.ly/uvUVdzU

And if you know a physician somewhere in the middle of this, send it their way.

Which of the three has been hardest to get a straight answer on?

Did you know the first week of August was National Simplify Your Life Week? Reconciled Solutions' entire 2026 theme is "complexity fails, simplicity scales," and we feel seen.

This month's newsletter leans all the way in. Inside:

🔮 Why your year is decided in August, not December — and the one-page check-in that replaces the panicked December phone call.

🤨 The QuickBooks mystery line nobody asks about out loud: unapplied cash payment income, finally explained.

✅ Five QBO features that support a more profitable business (and the caveat that makes them work).

🤖 The debut of The AI Accountant Corner — the two rules that made AI genuinely useful in our own back office, starting with "propose, don't act."

🩺 And a free webinar on Friday, September 11 for DPC and concierge physicians: a healthcare attorney, a branding specialist, and me on the legal, financial, and brand foundations of a practice that lasts.

The link's in the first comment. Grab your iced coffee.

What's one thing you're simplifying this month?

08/28/2026

There's a line that shows up on QuickBooks reports that stops almost everyone the first time: "unapplied cash payment income."

Most owners do one of two things with it. Squint, then move on. Or worry quietly that something's broken.

Here's the plain-English version: it usually means a payment got recorded without being matched to its invoice. Harmless-sounding — except left alone it can overstate income, distort your reports, and complicate your taxes. It's one of the most common cleanup items we find in new client books, and it's very fixable.

We updated our full guide to what it is, why QuickBooks creates it, and how to clean it up the right way. Link's in the first comment.

What's the QuickBooks line item you've been squinting at lately?
