🚂💫 Did you know one of New Jersey’s most legendary trains was connected to Elizabeth’s railroad story?

Launched in 1929, the Blue Comet became famous for combining speed, style, and comfort as it carried passengers between the New York area and the Jersey Shore, including Atlantic City.

Its striking blue design represented the sky and ocean, its passenger cars were named after comets, and its service offered travelers a taste of luxury without the luxury fare.

But Elizabeth has its own connection to this golden age of rail travel. Elizabethport was an important part of the Central Railroad of New Jersey network, with railroad facilities that helped support the movement of trains across the region.

Today, you can discover the Blue Comet and explore more of Elizabeth’s transportation history at the Elizabeth Welcome Station.

☎️✨ Did you know there was a time when making a phone call in Elizabeth required another person to connect you?

Long before smartphones, direct dialing, and even rotary phones, telephone operators connected calls by hand—helping businesses, factories, railroads, and families communicate across a rapidly growing Elizabeth.

As technology evolved, those early telephone systems helped transform how people lived and worked, connecting a city that was becoming one of New Jersey’s important industrial centers.

Today, the technology fits in our pockets. But its story can still be discovered right here in Elizabeth.

🇺🇸📜 History returned to where it all began.

As part of Elizabeth Celebrates America 250, the New Jersey Senate returned to the historic First Presbyterian Church of Elizabethtown, now known as Siloam-Hope First Presbyterian Church—the site recognized as the birthplace of New Jersey’s legislative history.

Leaders, historians, and community members gathered to honor the place where the earliest decisions that helped shape our state were made, reflecting on Elizabeth’s lasting role in New Jersey’s story and America’s journey.

This remarkable event was more than a commemoration—it was a reminder that history is not only preserved here, but continues to inspire future generations.

✨ History happened here. History lives here. And the story is still being written.

🇺🇸📜 History came full circle in Elizabeth.

As part of America’s 250th Anniversary, the New Jersey Senate Select Committee Meeting was held at the historic Siloam Hope First Presbyterian Church—the very place where New Jersey’s legislative story began more than two centuries ago.

State leaders, historians, and community members gathered to commemorate this extraordinary milestone, honoring Elizabeth’s role as New Jersey’s first permanent English settlement, first capital, and the birthplace of the state’s legislative history.

More than a committee meeting, this was a powerful reminder that the places where history was made continue to inspire the future.

As America celebrates 250 years, Elizabeth proudly continues to welcome visitors to experience the stories that helped shape our nation.

✨ History happened here. History lives here.
