At WIC, we believe breastfeeding parents should be able to feed their babies or toddlers (or pump/hand express milk!) at work, school, and in public with respect and support. 💖
It’s time to break the stigma against public breastfeeding. Luckily, the law is on your side, empowering you to breastfeed when and where you need to! 🤱

August is National Breastfeeding Month — and this year, it is about so much more than one community. 🌿

Every week of August and into September, a different community takes center stage — celebrating their breastfeeding and chestfeeding journeys, raising awareness of the unique barriers they face, and reclaiming spaces that have not always been built with them in mind.

This year's National Breastfeeding Month theme says it all:
RISE: Resilience, Interdependence, Self-Determination, Empowerment

And at Live, Love, Latch!® 2026, we believe Together We Nourish means every single one of these communities deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated.

Here is what this month holds:

🌍 August 1–7 · World Breastfeeding Week
"Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life"
A global movement in over 170 countries reminding the world that breastfeeding and chestfeeding families deserve sustainable, lasting support — not just awareness.

🌿 August 8–14 · Indigenous Milk Medicine Week
"We Keep the Fires Lit: Rising Through Milk Medicine"
For Indigenous communities, breastfeeding and chestfeeding is not just feeding — it is medicine, cultural continuity, and an act of reclamation. This week honors the traditional knowledge that colonization tried to erase and the communities keeping it alive.

🌺 August 15–21 · AANHPI Breastfeeding Week
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Breastfeeding Week
The AANHPI community is not one story — it is hundreds of cultures, languages, and traditions. This week exists to decrease inequities and make sure AANHPI families see themselves in breastfeeding and chestfeeding support spaces.

✊🏾 August 25–31 · Black Breastfeeding Week
"WE ALL WE GOT: 15 Years of Community, Care, and Collective Power"
Fifteen years of Black-led advocacy, community building, and truth-telling about the systemic barriers Black families face on their breastfeeding and chestfeeding journeys. This week is a celebration, a reckoning, and a call to action all at once.

🌻 September 8–14 · Semana de la Lactancia Latina
For Latino and Latina/x families navigating breastfeeding and chestfeeding in systems that were not built in their language or with their culture in mind. This week uplifts community strength, cultural resilience, and the fight for language justice in lactation care.

👂 September 16–22 · Deaf and Hard of Hearing Breastfeeding Week
For Deaf and hard of hearing families who face barriers to breastfeeding and chestfeeding support that are rarely talked about and even more rarely addressed. This week makes those barriers visible — and builds community around shared experience.

Why are we sharing this? 🌿
Because at La Leche League USA, we believe our reach belongs to every community we serve — not just the ones that have historically been centered in lactation spaces.

These weeks were not created by us. They were created by community leaders, advocates, and families who saw themselves missing from the conversation and decided to build their own table. Our role — and our responsibility — is to make sure more people know these tables exist.

If you are part of one of these communities, this month is for you. Your journey matters. Your barriers are real. And there are people who look like you, speak your language, and share your experience doing this work right now.

If you are an ally to one of these communities, this month is also for you. Sharing these weeks, attending these events, and pointing people in the right direction is one of the most powerful things you can do.

Are you part of one of these communities and want to bring a Live, Love, Latch!® event to your area?

Reach out to your local LLL USA Leader. Let them know who you are, what community you represent, and that you want to partner to co-host something meaningful in your community this August or September.

Live, Love, Latch!® events are led by LLL USA Leaders — but the best ones are built in partnership with the communities they serve. Your knowledge, your relationships, and your voice are exactly what makes an event rooted rather than just present.

Together We Nourish is not a slogan. It is a practice. And it starts with knowing that every community in this list deserves to be seen — not just in August, but all year long. 🌿

📷 Image description: A light pink graphic with bold orange text reading "Weekly Observations for the 2026 National Breastfeeding Month" at the top. Below that in orange italic text: "RISE: Resilience, Interdependence, Self-Determination, Empowerment." In the upper left corner is the Live, Love, Latch!® 2026 circular logo featuring the interlocking hands image with the words Community, Seen, Held, and Presence, and the Together We Nourish theme. Six organizational logos appear in a horizontal row representing each weekly observance: the WABA logo for World Breastfeeding Week August 1–7; an illustrated Indigenous figure nursing for Indigenous Milk Medicine Week August 8–14; the AANHPI Breastfeeding Week circular logo for August 15–21; the Black Breastfeeding Week logo for August 25–31; the Latinx Breastfeeding Week circular logo for Semana de la Lactancia Latina in September; and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Breastfeeding Collective logo for September 16–22. Each logo connects to an orange label below it describing the week name, dates, and theme.

Every August, the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee hosts to encourage families, communities, and organizations to come together for action and conversations about how we can build a stronger support network for breastfeeding parents! 💖

This year’s theme is RISE, which stands for: Resilience, Interdependence, Self-determination, and Empowerment! 🐦‍🔥This year's theme was created by USBC to capture the heart and strength of the field while also honoring the change and growth that are still needed to further equitable access to breastfeeding support for all families.

A Look Back at Dr. King’s Demands for Food Justice 02/09/2026

February is , a time to remember and celebrate the accomplishments, contributions, and leadership of Black Americans. Black history is American history, and it’s woven into the fabric of our communities, our health, and our shared future. That legacy includes leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose work for economic justice and food security reminds us that access to basic needs, including nutritious food, is necessary for families to thrive.

At WIC, we celebrate the caregivers, parents, and community leaders who nurture the next generation. 🫂
