One of the options for burying your loved one is to buy a concrete liner that surrounds the coffin. It is used to protect the coffin from water, shifting, or having the ground shift above it.

Maria Pinto Urenda

June 24, 1929 – May 21, 2026

Maria Pinto Urenda, age 97, passed away suddenly on May 21, 2026, in Manor, Texas. Born on June 24, 1929, in San Juan Peyotán, Nayarit, Mexico, Maria lived a long and meaningful life marked by resilience, devotion to her family, and a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship.

Maria lost her mother, Petra Urenda, in infancy and was lovingly raised by her maternal grandmother, Juana Urenda. She was the second child of Porfirio Pinto and Petra Urenda. Her life was defined by hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering love for her family. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Ramona Quezada Pinto; her husband, Tranquilino Quezada; and her brothers, Agapito Pinto Urenda and Zenaido Pinto Quezada.

She found joy in life’s simplest moments and remained closely connected to her roots through ranch work. Maria also took great pride in her crocheting and embroidery, creating pieces that reflected both her patience and artistry.

Maria carried a distinctive sense of humor, often finding light even in life’s hardships. She would recount the story of how she lost her middle finger with a comical twist. The straightforward version: while roping a calf, the rope wrapped tightly around her finger and severed it. Maria’s version: after it “popped off,” she went to retrieve it, only to discover that a chicken had beaten her to it—and eaten it.

There is no love like that of a mother, and for Maria, that love was most evident in her devotion to her only son, Antonio Quezada Pinto. She was content simply being in his presence. In his absence, she would often ask, “Donde está Antonio?” (“Where is Antonio?”). When he returned home, her face would fill with undeniable joy, and she could finally rest, knowing her son was near. In the last six years of her life, God granted her the precious gift of time with him—time that was truly invaluable to them both.

Maria cherished her family deeply and found great joy in watching her great-grandchildren experience the innocence of childhood. During those moments, she would often ask, “Are the children baptized?”—a question rooted not in judgment, but in her deep faith and desire to see them guided in Christ. Her family finds comfort in knowing that Maria was a devoted daughter of God and has now returned to Him, reunited once more with her daughter.

Her legacy of strength, love, and perseverance lives on through her family. She is survived by her devoted son, Antonio Quezada Pinto (Martha); her cherished family members, Jesus Jose (Ryan Leen), Kassandra Anahi (Brian William), Pablo Gerardo, and Sebastian Ulises; her beloved great-grandchildren, Antonio Julian and Augustus Ryan; and her cousins, Lupe, Ester, Petra, and Lidia Flores Urenda.

Maria will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

I wanted to share these pictures of what the Northeast Corner of the Cemetery looked like when we took over in 2004. Took a lot of trash bags to clean this up. I especially want to thank the Jimmy Lopez family and many other volunteers and the Cemetery friend who is no longer with us--County Commissioner Lee Dildy.

Last night, we had strong winds and rains and two trees fell over. The Selvera family plot had a tree in it and when it fell over, it also knocked a Headstone over. The other one was on Cemetery property and it blocked one road. There was a Good Samaritan that is known to the Selvera Family and he went and cut both trees into manageable pieces. Thanks to him!!!!

This bench was stolen yesterday at the Elgin Latin Cemetery. One of the family members was there, left for an hour, and when he returned it was gone. The location of the family plot is near the front entrance. If you have any info, please contact the cemetery. It's despicable to steal something from the cemetery but it happens with regularity.
