As we head into another busy week — and for me, the final stretch toward the October 15 tax deadline — this one feels especially appropriate.

We don’t have to feel ready for everything in front of us. Sometimes we simply show up, do the next thing that needs to be done, and keep moving forward.

Growing up, you always told me, “Adelante, adelante como el elefante.” 🐘

As a little girl, I thought it simply meant to keep moving forward. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to understand so much more in those words.

Move forward with strength and grace. Stand strong. Lead and protect your family. Remember where you came from. Be loyal, compassionate and empathetic. And no matter how difficult the terrain becomes, keep moving forward.

More than 27 years after losing you, I’m so grateful that such a simple saying became such a powerful message, one that has stayed with me and found me whenever I’ve needed it most.

Adelante, adelante como el elefante. 🐘❤️

The numbers matter. But so does the person behind them. Over the years, I’ve learned that some of the most important parts of my client meetings happen before we ever get to the tax return.

People come into my office carrying more than numbers. They’re starting businesses, changing careers, buying homes, getting married, going through divorces, raising families, moving to another country, retiring, sometimes they’re simply trying to figure out what comes next.

My job starts with listening.

Because before I can help someone make a good financial decision, I need to understand their story, their concerns and what they’re actually trying to accomplish.

These are a couple of older screenshots that made me smile because they reminded me that this has always been part of how I work.

A bittersweet client meeting today. 💙

For the past year and a half, I’ve had the pleasure of working with this client from the time he was preparing to come to the U.S. from Germany on a work visa, and now, as he prepares to return home.

Along the way, there were so many questions that come with living and working in another country: Can I buy a car? What happens when I sell it? Is it reportable? How does my 401(k) work? What happens if I cash it out? What gets reported in the U.S., and what will I need to address when I return to Germany? There were definitely a few “But Nury, what does Uncle Sam want me to do with this?” conversations along the way. 😂

He was always incredibly conscientious about doing things correctly, asking questions and understanding his responsibilities. Somewhere along the way, I even had the pleasure of meeting his parents when they came to visit. 😊

It’s a little sad to see a client leave the U.S., but one of the unexpected gifts of this work is that sometimes clients become friends, even friends who end up living on the other side of the world.

Wishing him nothing but success on his next adventure in Germany. 🇩🇪🇺🇸

A new week, a fresh list, and probably more things to do than there are hours in the day. 😊

One thing I’ve learned — in business and in life — is that everything doesn’t have to happen at once.

Sometimes a productive day is simply knowing what matters most, taking care of what’s in front of you, and continuing to move forward.

One decision. One task. One step at a time.
