During the Spring semester, students in Professor Elizabeth Shaheen’s Level IV Reading and Speaking ESL classes completed a persuasive presentation project using evidence gathered through the College Library’s databases.
Students attended Library Instruction Sessions with Librarian Professor Sara Imranyi and learned how to find and use library resources, identify relevant sources, and properly cite information. They then created detailed outlines and engaging presentations to share with their classmates.
The project helped prepare English Language Learner students for future college coursework and build confidence in a language that is not their first.

Students in Professor Nikki Gonzalez’s Community-Engaged Learning section of Social Psychologycelebrated their community partner, Comunidades para Americanos Nuevos (CAN!), part of Interfaith Refugee and Immigrant Services and Empowerment (I-RISE Interfaith-RISE) in Highland Park, with a symbolic baby shower during the spring.
Throughout the semester, students explored how social psychological principles connect to the immigration experience and partnered with CAN! Director Bella Gerstmann to learn more about the organization’s work supporting immigrant families impacted by detention or deportation.
The baby shower served as the culmination of the course, giving students an opportunity to honor their community partner and reflect on what they learned throughout the semester.

Pre-Social Work students participated in the program’s first-ever visit to the Rutgers University School of Social Work thanks to the efforts of History and Social Sciences Professor Arianna Illa.
Eighteen students visited Rutgers’ College Avenue campus in downtown New Brunswick, where they learned more about the Bachelor of Arts in Social Work program, connected with current Rutgers students who transferred from community colleges, sat in on a class lecture, and toured the campus.
The visit was designed to help students explore transfer opportunities and ease anxieties as they continue their academic journey. Thank you to Professor Arianna Illa for organizing the trip, as well as Acting History and Social Sciences Department Chair Giuseppe Rotolo, Dean Mirta Tejada, Dean Angelo Abreu, and the entire New Brunswick Center team for supporting the visit.
