Border Patrol Agents at the Falfurrias checkpoint successfully interdicted a dangerous human smuggling attempt. A white Dodge Ram 3500 hauling a gooseneck trailer loaded with mulch bags, approached the primary inspection lane. As the agents conducted their inspection, a USBP K9 alerted to the vehicle's trailer, prompting agents to direct it to secondary inspection.
Upon further examination, agents removed the mulch bags and discovered a makeshift container, concealing 26 illegal aliens. These types of enclosed spaces pose extreme dangers, including the risk of asphyxiation and severe heat-related illness, especially given South Texas's propensity for high temperatures.

The driver was arrested for human smuggling, and the illegal aliens were taken into custody for further processing. This incident highlights the life-threatening risks associated with illegal immigration methods employed by criminal organizations.

HORSE PATROL IS ON A ROLL!

The RGV Sector Horse Patrol Unit working at the Fort Brown Station in Brownsville, intercepted two separate attempts to smuggle over 200 pounds of ma*****na in a single night shift. This is just another example of the various assets the Border Patrol utilizes to secure the border.

Great work by our Border Patrol Agents in Rio Grande City!
They recently interdicted 394 lbs of ma*****na, valued at over $315,000! This successful
operation is a critical step in safeguarding our communities.
Our agents are directly preventing a cascade of dangers from
reaching our streets. When Border Patrol Agents thwart a drug smuggling event, we are actively disrupting the revenue flow for
organized crime groups, weakening their ability to fund further
criminal enterprises, and reducing the downstream violence and crime associated with illicit substances.
These interdictions are a critical part of our national
security strategy, reflecting the U.S. Border Patrol’s steadfast dedication to
protecting and securing our nation.

On June 4, 2026, A tractor-trailer fled the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint after a K9 alerted to the trailer. Following a pursuit involving Border Patrol and Texas DPS, the vehicle caught fire. Agents arrested the driver and passenger in the cab, and fortunately, rescued 39 individuals from inside the locked trailer before it was fully engulfed in flames. The incident remains under investigation.

This case highlights the serious risks associated with human smuggling, including dangerous and life-threatening conditions inside concealed vehicles. This is the latest example of smugglers' blatant disregard for the safety of the individuals they traffic. Great work by agents and troopers in preventing the loss of life.

Jesus Grimaldo, a U.S. citizen, was recently convicted and sentenced to 120 months in prison for operating a smuggling ring that left an illegal alien dead near Falfurrias, Texas. Grimaldo recklessly operated his smuggling ring without any regard for human safety or wellbeing. On June 4, 2026, at approximately 8:36 p.m. CDT, a tractor trailer approached the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint in Encino, Texas. During an immigration inspection, a U.S. Border Patrol K9 alerted to the trailer. Agents directed the driver to secondary inspection, but the driver disregarded instructions and fled the checkpoint.

Falfurrias agents initiated pursuit, activating emergency equipment and attempting to conduct a vehicle stop. The driver failed to yield and continued northbound on Highway 281 before turning southbound south of Falfurrias. Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to assist by continuing the pursuit and successfully deploying a vehicle immobilization device. Despite deflated tires, the suspect continued driving until the tractor caught fire.

Agents and troopers immediately removed the two occupants from the burning vehicle and placed them under arrest. During the arrest, agents discovered that individuals were inside the trailer. Agents and troopers were able to open the locked trailer and rescue 39 suspected illegal aliens before the tractor and trailer were engulfed in flames.

All subjects were medically screened for injuries prior to being taken into custody. This case is under joint investigation by Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Border Patrol. U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Professional Responsibility is reviewing the incident.
