According to PDSA research, a dog's perfect walk is 67 minutes long with 16 dedicated sniff stops along the way. Most owners report cutting walks significantly shorter and pulling their dogs away from sniffing to keep moving, which veterinary experts say is the opposite of what dogs actually need.

Sniffing activates the brain far more than running does for dogs, meaning a slow walk with plenty of stops is more restorative than a fast one with none. The walk your dog is trying to take is not the same walk you are trying to finish.

After a lot of “talking” it through, & loads of encouragement, Oreo figured out how to get onto the big tire! He was so proud of himself! Way to go, Oreo!

New furry faces at Beachtown Dogs! Angel & Jack came to play.

One of the things that we love to do is to meet dogs where they’re at and help them grow.

Angel is the sweetest, cuddliest 5 year old pup who is an incredibly strong leash puller. It’s not often I hear Brandon say “whoaaaa Nellie…”, so when she excitedly pulled him on the leash, we knew there was an opportunity for growth and we wasted no time to fit her with a 2 Hounds Design Freedom No-Pull Harness. These are the harnesses we use on all of our adventure dogs. Brandon explained to her mom how to best use it and when Angel came back for her second day, she was nicely walking on the leash and there was good feedback that she was doing a lot better! 🥳

Jack is a young 1-year old pup who is working on growing in his confidence. He was a bit nervous on his first day being the new guy, and Waylon happened to stop by with his dad to drop something off to us at the perfect time. We asked if he could stay & help the new pup make a friend. Those two were instant best buds and Jack’s face lit up. All his worries went away. Jack also made a new friend with Rocky later in the day.

It’s so rewarding to see all the pups grow 🥰

A childhood dream came true today.. The Ice Queen Truck came for a surprise visit!!! Just in time for lunch! 🥳. Now, we need to make this a scheduled event so we can tell all our friends to join us for ice cream!!!

We are welcoming lots of new friends this week at Beachtown Dogs! Today was Petey’s first day!

What started as normal ‘first day jitters’ quickly turned to him feeling pretty comfortable. He even made a new friend named Rocky (aka Taco) who helped to show him the ropes 🥰

Let’s give a big WOOF welcome to Petey!

It might only be the middle of September, but we are already taking reservations for November & December Holiday Boarding!
