Trying my hand at , a Japanese natural dye craft that starts with green persimmons. The meat grinder was perfect for the job.
The Asian persimmon tree (Diospyros kaki) in our yard is prolific, and the last two years we’ve made , Japanese dried persimmons, from the fruit. There’s always thinning and pruning that needs to be done when the fruit is green, so kakishibu is a perfect use for what otherwise would be waste.

Tansy dye experiments! The yellow is pure tansy, the green one was dipped in indigo after dyeing. I love it. I’ve been growing these in the garden and harvesting over the last couple month, and got to cool them up at the Color to Dye For community dye day in Siler City.

Can you believe these beautiful pieces are made from kudzu? This past weekend I got to attend Kudzu Camp and learn how to harvest the kudzu growing around us and process it into fiber for weaving and basket making. and were amazing teachers and guides, and I have a whole new appreciation for the beauty of this plant.

Love my sneakers more every time I wear the.
These babies were hand crafted in using vintage materials. They are super comfortable and super orange. And they have a special sustainability feature: they can be re-soled! An investment piece for sure, and worth every daggum penny.

Thank you, my little pomegranate tree, for giving me food AND dye and being low maintenance to boot. If you didn’t know you can grow pomegranate in planting zone 7, well, now you know!
I’ll be munching the little jewels of fruit and then drying the rind to use for yellow dye.
