Can electricity conjure spirits from beyond? Maybe not, but in the Victorian period, conjurers like Émile Voisin used electricity to produce illusions which passed for ghostly messages to their captivated audiences. This contraption is Voisin’s “Spirit Bell,” which employed a magic trick to ring in response to audience members’ questions.
