The puppy put in some hard work in order to retrieve some wonderful ducks. These bags of SW Colorado wild duck flanks and feathers are getting delivered to some regular customers who appreciate the benefits of private water fly fishing and the art of fly tying.

Certainly feels like this weather is here to stay, but your off-season doesn't have to start just yet. For those of you willing to brave the cold, throw on some extra layers and do some fishing.

At High Hilton Ranch, an irrigation canal runs the entire length of the property. So if you're striking out on the main river, try your luck along the canal road. You just might get a fish or two to rise.

Ever reached your fishing spot only the find the water looking like this? Don't get to thinking the day's a bust. The fish aren't fans of muddy water either and tend to hang out along the edges and bottom of the river. So try your luck with some bigger, flashier flies in slower-moving areas like the banks or behind obstructions.

Taking the time today to thank all veterans for their incredible bravery and service to our country.

Get out today and make sure to thank as many Veterans of our fine Military Branches as possible. While I personally didn’t serve in the military, much of my early professional career was dedicated in support to these great Americans. So, thanks to all the former Airmen, Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers who put themselves out front protecting our Constitution and the citizens that benefit from their dedication to the United States of America.

Particularly thank the Enlisted component of these branches. In a recent book I read concerning the 34th Infantry Division in World War 2 one quote struck me as the embodiment of the importance of our Military. “His defeat (Germany) did not result from a lack of fighting qualities but from an overpowering armament and by a fighting force of freemen (Americans) bent on destroying the last remnants of a force and philosophy which had almost engulfed the world.”

Thank you to all our Veterans and current members of the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy.

Fishing and exploring at the Redburn Flying R Ranch — a family-owned cattle ranch located on the banks of the seldom-fished Dolores River. Surrounded by beautiful fall foliage, even the overcast weather couldn't keep this recent trip from being one to remember.

This is from a recent evening on the Gunnison River on the High Hilton Ranch near Montrose. Fly fishing in a setting like this can sometimes make catching an afterthought. Though with these prime fall conditions, the fishing is on fire!
