The City of Durango is joining the Week Without Driving national movement organized by America Walks on October 1-8, 2026. This is a national movement aimed to challenge people to get around without driving for a whole week.
Locally, the City of Durango will be hosting a “Week Without Driving Challenge” on the Way to Go Durango platform for community members to participate in this movement. In an effort to incentivize community members to partake in the movement, participants are encouraged to join the challenge and log the most non-driving commutes during the week to compete for a $50 Heart of Durango Dollars gift card.

To learn more about Week Without Driving, visit weekwithoutdriving.org. To learn more about Way to Go Durango and how to sign up, visit www.durangoco.gov/762/Way-to-Go-Durango.

Over 1/3 of people in America are non-drivers; disabled people who cannot drive, people who can’t afford a vehicle or gas, have suspended licenses or lack documentation to get a license, people who are too young to drive, choose not to drive or who have aged out of driving. This event is organized to spread awareness of the car-centric bias prevalent in the transportation infrastructure and culture of most places in America and to inspire action among communities and leaders to make progress towards changing this.
