The Fall enrollment deadline is approaching for the Afterschool Conservatory! Conservatory works hand-in-hand with SEACT productions, offering students a safe space to develop key skills like acting technique, sight-reading music, and ensemble singing and choreography that they can then apply in the rehearsal room. Students will develop competition pieces to showcase what they have learned, allowing them to tackle a range of characters and material that they might not have the chance to take on in a typical production. Scene Study for Adults | Register Now at SEACT.com 🎭 | Take your acting to the next level in this in-depth scene study class designed for adults of all experience levels. Together, we’ll explore scenes from contemporary and classic straight plays while focusing on the art of creating authentic, believable characters.

Students will learn how to analyze scripts, uncover objectives and motivations, develop relationships, make strong acting choices, and bring emotional truth to every performance. Through rehearsals, coaching, and group discussion, we’ll dig beneath the surface of the text to discover what makes each character unique.

This isn’t a lecture—it’s a working rehearsal room. Every class you’ll be on your feet exploring scenes, trying new approaches, receiving individualized coaching, and watching fellow actors grow. We’ll dive into character psychology, relationships, subtext, objectives, beats, and emotional connection, helping you build performances that feel genuine rather than performed.

SEACT Expands Year-Round Theatre Education Programs

DOTHAN, Ala.— According to Southeast Alabama Community Theatre (SEACT), the organization is encouraging students to continue their theatre education beyond stage productions through its year-round educational programming, including the Afterschool Conservatory and seasonal classes.

The announcement comes as SEACT presented "Matilda JR." at the Cultural Arts Center, 909 S. Saint Andrews St., with performances that were scheduled Friday, July 24, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 25, at 2 p.m.

According to SEACT, students who discover a passion for theatre through productions such as Matilda JR. can continue building their skills through a variety of educational opportunities.

"For students who discover a love of theatre through productions like Matilda JR., SEACT offers a full pathway of year-round programming designed to develop confident, creative, and compassionate young artists," the organization said.

According to SEACT, Education Productions are offered each season through auditions and are designed to help students develop skills in performance, technical theatre and collaboration under the guidance of theatre educators.

SEACT said its Afterschool Conservatory is its most comprehensive student training program, providing weekly after-school instruction throughout the school year in acting, singing, dance, theatre technology and design. Instruction is tailored to each student's age and experience level.

According to SEACT, Conservatory enrollment is offered by semester, with the Fall semester enrollment deadline set for Aug. 15. Tuition is $500 per semester, with sibling discounts, SEACT member discounts and partial tuition assistance available. Enrollment also includes competition registration fees, team apparel, and Thespian Society membership and dues.

SEACT said Conservatory students have opportunities to compete at the organization's annual TheatreFest, the Alabama Thespian Festival, and perform during the SEACT Student Awards Banquet and Showcase. Additional classes, workshops and intensives in acting, choreography and voice are also offered throughout the year for students of all ages and experience levels.
