WORLD HOMELESS DAY | SERVICE, COMPASSION & COMMUNITY 💙

In recognition of World Homeless Day, Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries (DRMM) is grateful for the community partners who are helping us make a difference in the lives of our neighbors experiencing homelessness. 💙

We were honored to welcome the Wayne State University Organization of Black Alumni - OBA during their Homecoming Weekend as part of their community service initiative!

Volunteers spent time at our DRMM Men’s Shelter organizing the clothing closet and preparing and serving lunch to our clients. Thank you for giving your time, energy, and compassion to support our mission!

We also welcomed members of the City of Detroit Ombudsman Office team, including:

✨ Wanonna Roberts-Gray, M.A. — Director of Communications and Internal Operations, Office of the Ombudsman and Wayne State University alumna

During their visit, the team learned more about DRMM’s programs and services supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

We were especially excited to hear their interest in planning a future Day of Service with DRMM!

We look forward to building on this connection and creating more opportunities to serve our community together.

On World Homeless Day, we are reminded that homelessness is not someone’s identity, and everyone deserves dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to rebuild their life.

World Homeless Day: Homelessness Should Never Become Someone’s Identity

On World Homeless Day, October 10, we want to reflect on the importance of our work and the lives we touch every day.

At DRMM, we believe in serving the body, soul, and spirit—providing more than shelter and resources. We help individuals and families find hope, rebuild their lives, and move toward a brighter future.

Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries is proud to partner with Great Expressions Dental Centers for a community coat drive to help keep individuals and families in need warm this winter!

🗓️ Now through November 20!

We’re collecting essential cold-weather items for men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and hardship.

🧣 Items Needed:
🧥 Coats
🧤 Gloves and mittens
🧢 Warm hats
🧦 Warm socks

What a beautiful evening of community, compassion and connection at our Here for the Homeless Communal Dinner!

Thank you to every DRMM staff member, volunteer, partner and supporter who helped make the evening special—from preparing and serving the meal to welcoming our guests and creating a warm, welcoming and dignified experience for all.

This dinner was a powerful reminder that our mission is about more than providing services. It’s about meeting people where they are, restoring hope and reminding our neighbors that they are seen, valued and not forgotten.

We are grateful for everyone who showed up with open hearts and helping hands. Your dedication brings the DRMM mission to life every day.

Together, we are rebuilding our community, one life at a time.

Follow along this week and join us in making a difference!

As we close out Recovery Month, we’re highlighting DRMM’s Recovery Housing—available to men and women who have completed a DRMM treatment program.

Residents receive supportive services as they work toward stability, including case management, mental health and substance abuse aftercare, education, job training and employment support.

Those who maintain employment may also receive assistance with rent payments as they transition to permanent housing.

Follow-up support is available for up to six months after leaving Recovery Housing.
