Today, several of our Destin Firefighters are taking the next big step in their careers as they begin Paramedic School at nwfstatecollege!

The year ahead will bring long days, tons of studying, clinicals, ride time, and a whole lot of hard work, but we know they are ready for it!

We are proud of their commitment to continuing their education and strengthening the level of service we provide our citizens and visitors everyday!

At last night’s commissioner meeting, we were honored to recognize several of our outstanding employees!

First is Cydney Flynn. Congratulations to Cydney on completing her first season as a professional lifeguard with Destin Beach Safety. Cydney trained for three seasons in the Destin Junior Lifeguard Program and has consistently demonstrated an incredible work ethic, a genuine love of the sport and athletic ability, and a strong commitment to lifesaving service. We are incredibly proud to see Cydney’s journey from Junior Lifeguard to professional lifeguard and her positive impact on her community. Congratulations Cydney!

Next is our USLA Nationals medal placements: Maureen Abeita, Makayla Ludwick, and John Becker who competed in this year’s USLA National Surf Lifesaving Championships in Ft. Lauderdale. All three athletes scored points with the highest point contributors being our full time guards, Makayla and Maureen. More to come on their impressive accomplishments that include a lot of metals! Participating in events like this highlights the importance of maintaining a high level of physical fitness and readiness for this profession. These competitions showcase Destin as a premier destination for talented lifeguards looking to train, compete, and further their careers. Congratulations to all!

Next is the release of probation for Captain Justin Harper who brought over ten years of fire service experience, beginning his career with Guntersville Fire Department in Alabama before joining the Destin Fire Control District. He continually demonstrates dedication, professionalism, and technical expertise throughout his short career here and is a valuable asset to Destin Fire. Congratulations Justin!

Last is the Graduation of Paramedic School: Engineer Seth Menzer and Firefighter Jack Nabers have completed Paramedic School and both passed their National Registry exams! They will begin their paramedic orientations next shift.

Congratulations to all for their amazing accomplishments! These are a few recent accomplishments that show that Destin Fire continues to be a premier Fire Department because of the people that work for the organization!

Crews are currently on scene of a hotel structure fire off of Palm St. Fire is under control, but crews are still working on scene. Stay clear of the area. Updates soon.

***UPDATE***

Looks like an overheated battery which was charging started the fire. Destin Fire crews and the fire suppression system kept the fire in check, isolating to the room of origin. Great job to all involved, especially Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office!

🚨 Great Job to Marine 19 🚨

This morning, Marine 19 received a call for a traumatic injury at the Mid Bay Bridge. Located on the water at station 19, Marine 19 responded, made patient contact with North Bay Fire Control District PRWC marine unit and was able to stabilize the patient with an obvious angulated ankle fracture. Patient was brought aboard Marine 19, given Pain medications, fracture was splinted, and cardiac concerns were checked from the state of the art, Maritime transport unit. Patient was passed off to Okaloosa County EMS for transport to HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital. Great job to the entire crew responsible for Marine 19!

🚨 FL-TF7 UPDATE - HOME SAFE 🚨

After completing their mission supporting flood response efforts across Texas, Destin Fire members of FL-TF7 has safely returned home to Tallahassee.

🚨 FL-TF7 UPDATE 🚨

Over the past several days, Destin Fire members if FL-TF7 have continued supporting flood response efforts across southern Texas, moving throughout the south and southwest border region from Laredo to southern Zapata County near Falcon Lake as conditions and local needs changed.

Yesterday, the team continued operations in Rio Bravo, remaining available for rapid water rescue response while conducting area familiarization and assessments along the Rio Grande. FL-TF7 remains assigned to the All Hazards Group working alongside Alabama Task Force 1, an ambulance strike team, and a structural strike team.

The team is now positioned in San Antonio, Texas, awaiting its next assignment. Crews remain prepared to respond to concerns related to ongoing flooding and Tropical Storm Bertha as it moves through the area in the coming days.

🚨 FL-TF7 UPDATE 🚨

After overnighting in Laredo, FL-TF7 reported to Rio Bravo in Webb County and then went to Zapata while working around the Rio Grand on the southern boarder of Texas.

The team established a forward operating position outside the projected inundation area and is providing flood response coverage. FL-TF7 remains assigned alongside Alabama Task Force 1.
