On Monday we received a call to pick up a special Yom Kippur Red Barrel donation at Temple B'Nai Jeshurun. Sure glad we brought our large van! So much gratitude for the Temple as a long term interfaith partner in helping care for our Des Moines Metro area neighbors.

The Food Bank of Iowa truck showed up.

Then the DMARC truck showed up.

AT THE SAME TIME. 👀😂

For a second, we thought we might have ourselves a little food pantry showdown. 🚚💨🚚

But instead of a food fight, we got two drivers, two trucks, two incredible organizations, and one amazing collaboration. ❤️

Different trucks. Different organizations. One community. One mission. ❤️

Can we set a world record? Meals from the Heartland is a phenomenal partner to the DMARC Food Pantry Network and meals that are packed through events like this will reach people in need in Greater Des Moines.

Meals from the Heartland helps provide a consistent supply of food on local food pantry shelves year-round. Please consider joining in as a volunteer and helping break the world record of 600k meals packed in just one hour.

On October 20, more than 1,000 volunteers will come together at the Iowa Events Center with one BIG goal:

600,000 meals - enough food to feed 2,307 children for an entire year!

Half of the meals will stay right here in Iowa.
The rest will reach communities across the Midwest and eight countries around the world.

And every meal starts with people like you showing up, rolling up your sleeves, and serving.

To our Jewish Friends and Neighbors, this Yom Kippur, we wish you "g'mar chitmah tovah" - "A good final sealing," and a meaninful fast.

Yom Kippur, also known as the "Day of Atonement," is considered to be the holiest day of the year. It is the time which we are closest to G-d and our true essense. It is a time of solem prayer and fasting (from food, drink, and other things which may disctract from one's purification.

For nearly a decade, our partners at Tifereth Israel Synagogue have chosen to observe this time through service to their neighbors, hosting a food an fund drive before their evening service, as they enter the time of fasting.

This year they were able to rasie almost $1,500 and over 180lbs of shelf-stable food. From this, we are able to provide about 2,200 meals, or a 3-day monthly food supply for 249 unique individuals. Thank you for faithfully supportin our work and your compassion for your Des Moines Neighbors!

Stop by Breann's Bread Box this weekend at the Des Moines' Downtown Farmers' Market and buy a loaf to support DMARC.

As we head into the cooler months, I think it's time to bring back our favorite annual tradition:

This Saturday, September 26th, we will be hosting a PAY WHAT YOU CAN event at both of our locations. All bread and goodies will be available for free-will donation. ALL proceeds this week will be going to our local food banks!

Indianola Farmers Market Proceeds will be going to Helping Hand of Warren County

If you need a loaf of bread or a treat, and cannot spare the money, come to one of our two locations for a free loaf or snack, no questions asked. If you can spare it, ALL proceeds collected this weekend will go to the food banks above.

Serving our community is the most important piece of our vision. Thank you for being a part of that!
