Obedience Seminar with Joey Baker
July 31 & August 1
K9cation — Hudson or Ft. Lupton location to be decided based on interest.
I will be hosting a two-day obedience seminar focused on building clear, reliable obedience through communication, timing, motivation, structure, and fair accountability.
This seminar is designed for Dog Owners/handlers who want to better understand how obedience is built from the foundation up, how to create clarity for the dog, and how to move from teaching behaviors to reliable performance.
Topics will include:
• Sit, Down, Come, Focus Heel, and Pet Heel
We will break down how to teach foundation obedience clearly, how to guide the dog into the correct behavior, how to reward with proper timing, and how to build consistency. We will also cover the difference between everyday pet obedience and more focused, engaged obedience.
• Clear Communication
Dogs need a clear system they can understand. We will cover how to communicate through verbal markers, leash guidance, rewards, corrections, body language, and pressure/release so the dog knows when they are right, when they are wrong, and how to find the correct answer.
• Marker Training and Timing
Markers give the dog instant feedback. We will cover reward markers, duration markers, correction markers, and release markers, along with how timing affects the dog’s understanding and speed of learning.
• Pairing Rewards and Corrections with Verbal Markers
We will discuss how to properly pair rewards and corrections with verbal markers so training is fair, clear, and consistent. The goal is to help the dog understand both reward and accountability without confusion.
• Building Behavior as the Reward
This section will focus on creating dogs that enjoy the work, not just the reward. We will discuss how to build value in obedience so the dog becomes more confident, motivated, and willing to perform.
• Leadership
Leadership is about clarity, structure, consistency, and fairness. We will cover how to build better leadership through obedience, boundaries, leash handling, follow-through, and daily structure.
• Operant and Classical Conditioning
Handlers will learn how dogs build associations and how they learn through consequences. Understanding both forms of learning helps create better timing, better communication, and better training results.
• E-Collar as Reward and Correction
We will cover how the e-collar can be used as a communication tool when properly conditioned. This includes low-level guidance, motivation, pressure and release, reward-based communication, and fair correction.
• NePoPo® Concepts
We will introduce NePoPo® concepts and how they apply to obedience, motivation, pressure, release, reward, and building powerful, confident behavior.
• Troubleshooting Obedience Issues
We will address common problems such as lack of focus, pulling on leash, slow responses, breaking commands, poor recall, overexcitement, and handler timing mistakes.
Working spots and audit spots will be available.
Working spots are for handlers who want to bring a dog and receive hands-on coaching during the seminar. These spots will be limited so each working team can receive individual attention.
Audit spots are for people who want to attend without a dog, observe the training, take notes, ask questions, and learn from the working teams.
Pricing:
Working Spot: $150 per day
Audit Spot: $100 per day
Important: First-day attendance is required in order to attend the second day. This allows everyone attending Day 2 to have the same foundation and prevents us from having to go back over material already covered on Day 1.
Spots will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Deposits may be required to hold your spot.
If you are interested in attending, please comment or reach out to K9cation for more information.
