BOOM Magazine Denver
Denver-based literary magazine, written by Manual High School students. A part of Lighthouse Writers Workshop Young Writers Program. Hi, BOOM!
is a magazine filled with the poems, stories, essays and empowered voices of Manual High School students. We meet most Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school, hang out, write, write, write, read inspiring writing, and learn from workshops and the one-on-one mentoring of community writers. We publish two magazines per year. Trouble-makers, revolutionaries, sensitive souls, poets, storytellers, lyricists, introverts, jocks, outcasts, the curious and the opinionated are all welcome to join us.
With all of these recent likes from Ryan (Ry Ry) and Lolaa (Ivory) and Dominique, are we in need of an ongoing writing group? What about a January coffee shop hang-out for some inspiration?

An excerpt from "An Interview with Principal Don Roy," by Ryan Dean, forthcoming in our Spring Issue. The new principal of Manual High School says, "But I'll also say this: my style is not to come into this like a madman and change and disrupt everything. I want to be gradual and consistent and hopefully inspire consistent, gradual and methodical improvement."

Ryan's opening lines to her new poem "Mazes of Me," forthcoming in our Spring Issue:
Fingertips/Thin layers of me/Packaged in mazes/Of microscopic lines...

A post-Valentine post...a few lines of writing by Tre:
"Beauty. I crush not but raise a glass to her stature. Just a sweet thought for the woman with a strawberry sliced apart to form lips."

Select lines of a new poem by Marquita:
Drunkards flit around the grimy slabs of concrete,
those concrete slabs with the grab holds
from who-knows-when and barely any light
from the mini-city shines between those slabs,
letting those half-graceful drunkards go down
that alleyway blindly.

Lyrics from Rey's new song "Genocide" (just a few lines):
"We’ve all had that day we wish we could press reset.
Well I have it right in my heart, blank screen black.
A night I should have never come back."

A few lines about writing by Ryan Dean: "To be or not to be a word on the page put there by lead or ink. To let your mind wonder. Exploring the vast confines of the mind to seek and find what no one else will, capture it, bring it to earth."
