Working hard on The American Alpine Club Accidents in North American Climbing ...and hardly working. Summer work from the road!

Claiming the Summit Without Reaching the Top 05/12/2021

Fantastic piece released today from the New York Times, inspired by Damien Gildea's story in the 2020 American Alpine Journal—a book Mojave has had the pleasure of art directing for the past 5 years. Absolutely worth a read:

"By asking a simple-sounding question — What is the summit? — the researchers are raising doubts about past accomplishments and raising standards for future ones. Maybe they are making us all reconsider just what it means to reach the top."

Claiming the Summit Without Reaching the Top Only 44 people are said to have reached the summit of all 14 of the world’s highest mountains. Now, researchers are questioning whether any of them have really done it.

Catalogs are the jam. Mammut is most definitely the jam. This was the dream jam. In the past, Mammut has distributed a fairly straightforward product workbook to get product on ski resort employees. In preparation for next season, they hired Mojave Creative Lab to design a more compelling and creative 28 page catalog showcasing Mammut's innovative product and core culture. We're absolutely psyched to have been on board.

Hard to believe it's been 5 years since the American Alpine Club went to press with the poster commemorating Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson's completion of the Dawn Wall. The design was really the work of Clay Wadman's topo and Big Up Productions' photography—but it was an incredible honor to have a hand in putting the pieces together. Tommy and Kevin signed it and it's been on the office wall since.

Sad news from Backpacker's Pantry. They've been an important voice in pushing forward conservation initiatives and have supported other businesses like ours in hosting 1% for the Planet meetups. We're sad to receive the news on Rodney Smith's death. His leadership will be missed.

We are part of something bigger. At Mojave Creative Lab, we believe it’s our responsibility to give back so others who follow have an even better journey ahead.

Yesterday was ColoradoGives.org Day and as a committed member of 1% for the Planet, we put our money where it matters. We sent our contribution to Big City Mountaineers, an organization instilling critical life skills in under-resourced youth through transformative wilderness mentoring experiences. Thanks to all our clients for helping Mojave promote and protect the places we play!
