👎 Floaties, water wings, and puddle jumpers are not safe. While they may seem helpful, they can deflate, pop, or fall off. They also create a false sense of security for both children and parents.

These devices can make children believe they are safe in the water on their own and they hold children in a vertical position, also known as the drowning position.

Instead of relying on floatation toys, invest in a U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jacket 🛟 and use when appropriate.

Supervision is the first layer of protection when children are in or near water. 💧

Designate a Water Watcher to help ensure someone is always actively supervising. A Water Watcher should be free from distractions 📱, keep their eyes on the water at all times, and avoid conversations or activities that would take their attention away.

Be sure to rotate Water Watchers every 15–30 minutes ⏱️ to stay alert and focused.

One simple habit...intentional, distraction-free supervision can save lives 💙
