This past weekend we traveled to El Paso, Tx for Border Network for Human Rights’ (BNHR) 9th annual “Hugs not Walls” event. It was an honor to be a part of such a moving, meaningful and bittersweet event. The stories heard amongst the crowds were heartbreaking and you could hear love and pain in the cries as family members embraced each other for 3 minutes, some after not seeing each other for decades. This event is also a reminder that we must keep fighting for immigration reform and against separation of immigrant families. Extremely grateful for all the community leaders in both Ciudad Juarez and El Paso that helped this event happen, and also grateful for Border Patrol, the El Paso PD, and El Paso Sheriffs Department for working together with BNHR to make this event a success.
