The countdown to America 250 is on! We are 11 weeks out until the 4th of July.

As we approach this historic milestone, we’re proud to share this Local Gov 250 recognition, highlighting the impact of public servants shaping communities across the country.

Local Gov 250 is a national collaboration focused on celebrating “democracy at the doorstep”, the vital role cities, counties, regional councils, and tribal governments play in our everyday lives. As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, this initiative is recognizing individuals across the country who continue to shape our democratic story and looking ahead to the future of local government.

Assistant to the City Manager/Grant Writer, Michael Garcia, has been selected as one of the Local Gov 250 Government Champions, an honor recognizing public servants making a meaningful impact in their communities.

Honorees represent the full scope of public service, from mayors of major cities to planners, clerks, firefighters, and public works professionals, reflecting the many roles that keep our communities running every day.

While states like California and New York each have 18 honorees, leading the nation is our home state of Texas with 26, featuring major cities like Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. Included alongside them is one from Del Rio.

In May 2026, honorees will be recognized in Philadelphia, the birthplace of our nation.
