π¬ IRS Tax Verification Letter β What To Do
If you received a tax verification letter from the IRS, donβt worry. This is very common and does NOT mean you did anything wrong. The IRS just needs to confirm your identity before they finish processing your refund.
Here are the steps to complete it:
Step 1: Read the Letter Carefully
The letter will tell you exactly what type of verification is needed and give you instructions. Most letters will ask you to verify your identity online or by phone.
Step 2: Gather Your Documents
Before you start, make sure you have:
β’ The IRS letter you received
β’ Your current and prior year tax return
β’ Your Social Security Number or ITIN
Step 3: Verify Online (Fastest Method)
Go to the website listed in your letter. Usually, it will direct you to the IRS Identity Verification site.
Follow the steps to create or log into your IRS account and answer the security questions.
Step 4: Verify by Phone (If Required)
If the letter tells you to call, use the number provided in the letter.
Be prepared to answer questions about your tax return and personal information.
β οΈ IMPORTANT β BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION
When completing the verification, the IRS may ask you to confirm your direct deposit bank account and routing number.
π You MUST use the same account and routing number that was listed on your tax return (Form 1040).
This is the account your refund was sent to.
β Do NOT enter your personal bank account if it is different from what was on your tax return.
If the information does not match, the IRS may delay your refund or the verification process.
If you are unsure which account to use, please contact us before completing this step so we can do it together.
β
Important Reminders:
β’ Do NOT ignore the letter
β’ This is a routine security process
IF THE CLIENTS PUT THEIR PERSONAL ACCOUNT, YOU WILL NOT GET THE PREP FEE.
EVERYONE DOES NOT GET THIS MOSTLY NEW FILERS OR CLIENTS THAT DIDN'T FILE FOR SOME TIME

βοΈ Deposit records
If you made money, you gotta show it was real.
βΈ»
π 3οΈβ£ FILING STATUS IS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

π¨ WHY YOU SHOULD NOT FILE TAXES OR APPLY FOR A CASH ADVANCE USING A PAYCHECK STUB π¨
Filing your taxes or applying for a refund advance using a paycheck stub can seriously delay or jeopardize your refund.
Hereβs why π
β A paycheck stub is NOT a tax document
Your W-2 contains finalized numbers that employers have already reported to the IRS. Paycheck stubs are estimates and do not match IRS records.
β IRS matching system will flag your return
When the IRS compares what your employer reported vs. what you filed, any mismatch can cause your refund to be delayed up to 180 days or longer.
β Cash advance lenders require verified income
Tax advance banks only approve advances once the return is filed using official tax documents. Filing with a stub increases the risk of advance denial or reversal.
β Amendments cost money
If we have to amend your return because a stub was used instead of a W-2, amendment fees apply and your refund timeline resets.
β Refund delays = frustration
Most delays we see each year come from filing too early with incomplete or incorrect documents.
β
THE RIGHT WAY TO FILE
βοΈ Wait until you receive ALL W-2s, 1099s, and tax forms
βοΈ Upload documents through your secure client portal
βοΈ File once β file correctly
π Bottom line:
π No W-2 = No filing
π No official tax documents = No cash advance
Doing it right the first time protects your refund, your advance, and your peace of mind.
