Decatur Charity League (DCL), founded in 1975, is a non-profit service organization committed to improving our community through the effective actions and leadership of trained volunteers. DCL was formed to support the various programs of PACT (Parents And Children Together) both in volunteer service and fund raising efforts. Through these efforts, the lives of every child in Morgan County Alabama
are affected through the programs that DCL supports. DCL members are valued women who, by giving their love, time, and energy, bring education and hope to others. PACT NEWBORN PROGRAM
Trained DCL members visit new moms, newborns, and their families at Decatur General Hospital to deliver service information packets. This material is very informative and especially educational to first time moms. The packet includes a hotline information phone number for new parents to call if they need assistance with their new infant. Ultimately, the goal is to share with new parents information that could prevent child abuse. SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Trained DCL members deliver complete programs each semester to first and third grade students utilizing puppets, CDs, videos, and materials provided by PACT. The "Tricky People Program" teaches first graders about personal safety and stranger awareness. The program empowers children to know what to do in the event of the worst case scenario, yet, emphasizes more personal safety issues. Our third grade program is called "Tell Someone", with the main objective being to increase awareness of child abuse and neglect issues. The program also addresses the rising problems of teasing, taunting and bullying. Children are treated to a puppet show where they meet four puppets who are experiencing abuse and neglect. This program helps children recognize that they are valuable and deserve to be safe. They are encouraged to tell someone if they are struggling in any of these areas.
