The 2016 study by Tenovus Cancer Care and the Royal College of Music tested 193 members of five different choirs. Results showed that singing for an hour was associated with significant reductions in stress hormones, such as cortisol, and increases in quantities of cytokines, proteins of the immune system, which can boost the body's ability to fight serious illness.⁠ ⁠ Dr. Ian Lewis, Director of Research and Policy at Tenovus Cancer Care and co-author of the research, said: "These are really exciting findings. Mark your calendars for the Decatur Civic Chorus Holiday Magic concert on Saturday, December 6th at 4 PM at First Baptist Church in Decatur! The concert is free of charge and is sure to get you in the holiday spirit!

The Decatur Civic Chorus had the honor of singing at the memorial celebration for Mary Ann Sharp this morning.

Mary Ann led our chorus for an incredible 57 years-from 1964 to 2015- guiding us through countless performances across the US and Europe. Her passion, vision, and love for music created a long standing community of friends, and has shaped the chorus to who we are today.

We owe Mary Ann our deepest gratitude. The chorus still stands stong because of her lifelong dedication and the joy she shared with the all of us.

In these challenging times for the arts, your support matters more than ever. The Decatur Civic Chorus exists to provide area singers with the opportunity to make music together under skilled leadership, to enrich our community through free, high-quality performances, and to give back through charitable causes.

The Decatur Civic Chorus cordially invites you to participate in an extraordinary trip to Ireland scheduled for this coming June. The tour is managed by a standard in the music tour industry, Music Celebrations International (MCI). The itinerary includes four days in Dublin culminating in the festival performance at the famed St. Patrick's Cathedral. From there we'll hop on our tour bus with a guide and head to the Emerald Isle's iconic west coast to Limerick, Galway, and the Cliffs of Mohr. The tour price includes airfare (optional), two meals/day most days, entry to guided tours, tour bus, festival fees, lodging (dual occupancy), and more.
