🩵 Talk About It Tuesday: Worms & Newborn Puppies 🩵

All newborn puppies are born with intestinal worms — every single one. Even if mom was dewormed, parasites can lie dormant in her body for years. Pregnancy “reactivates” them, and they pass to puppies before birth and again through nursing.

The most common worms we see in newborns are:
• Roundworms (the long spaghetti-like ones you’re seeing here)
• Hookworms
• Whipworms
• Tapeworms (less common in tiny babies but possible)

Because worms have multi-stage life cycles, puppies must be dewormed on a strict schedule:
⭐️ At 2 weeks old
⭐️ Every 2 weeks after that
⭐️ Until at least 12 weeks old

This protects them from anemia, poor growth, diarrhea, and serious illness.

Richard O. Rosen was the architect and superintendent of the construction of the Powers Mansion. When completed in 1910 it was said to be the best and most ornate house ever built in Decatur. The 13-room, three-story home was constructed at the cost of $83,000 plus the lot cost, the equivalent of $2.8 million today.

The mansion is heavy brick construction with basement walls that are 16” thick and all other walls 12” thick. It displays many influences of the Columbian Exposition and the revival of classical architecture. The third floor features a huge ballroom with maple floors and cedar-lined storage benches under the dormer windows. An electric elevator connects it to the other floors and the large basement garage.
