You can hear the crickets. The wind feels cold on my face as the temperature drops. It is ironic all of the connections in one sunset.
I admit I inherited my mother’s love of sunsets. Which she inherited from her mother. They called it skybluepink. Which tonight looked more like firebluepink, with a fiery reflection off of Lake Chatuge. When Mama saw a sunset this pretty, she would usually start singing an old hymn. I can hear her voice in my mind.
I learned how to water ski on this lake, my brother taught me. Some of my favorite childhood memories were made in this town. In a little cabin where we visited each year in Hiawassee. Tonight, I am just passing through on a regular Wednesday. Everything I notice here, makes me miss my brother, who taught me how to ski right here, I can picture it. He’s been gone almost 7 years now. I always feel him strong on this lake though. Where he loved to bass fish. So, I texted my siblings and my dad, and told them I love them. Mama, this is for you. Just like you taught me.

It’s not sad, it is acceptance of everything that is. Which is beautiful and it is a moment of being mindful. 🌊

This is a post for solidarity, grief, hope, courage, vulnerability, honesty, unanswered prayers and answered ones, too. We will survive.
