The aroma is uplifting and summery — many people say it makes them smile or sigh with pleasure when they walk under a blooming tree in late spring to early summer (typically June).

It’s one of the most beloved tree scents in temperate regions, evoking clean sweetness rather than heavy perfume. The small, creamy-yellow to pale flowers hang in clusters and release this fragrance most intensely in warm weather.

If you've smelled it in person (especially in urban plantings, where it's a common street tree), it's hard to forget — a true sign of early summer!
