3S Homestead

Someone pitched a kitten out the window of a moving car near our day job and a coworker brought it to us to nurse back to health. Its eye is swollen shut but there is an eyeball in there so hopefully we can get the swelling to go down and see if it is viable. Baby is so small that milk replacer is his jam right now. And lots of loving!

The homestead got a HUGE influx of new-to-us chickens. 50 to be exact. We have a sweet friend who raises chickens for eggs and direct to consumer meat. She had some older layers that she wanted a good home for and we made the short list! We went and stuffed them all in transport cages, drove them home, and got them separated out into three quarantine pens. They are sardined in there and we are looking at the resources we have here to make a better solution for them. Y’all…our dream of a wave of chickens flooding out when we open the coop door is coming soon!

I hope anyone in the neighborhood who drives by them gets as much joy out of seeing them as I do.

….go to work….you have feed to buy….you have bills….GO….TO…WORK!!!!!

It took every ounce of willpower to drag our behinds to work today when the ladies were up in the front pasture first thing this morning. Look at that peaceful Texas Sky and how willing these precious souls are! The urge to stay and love on these ladies all morning was incredibly strong but bills won out! Dang bills!

Not even normal errands are normal around here!

We ran into Denton for a refueling trip at Sam’s Club and when we got home, our little farm-raised “baby” goat (who is now the “big” boss of all the other goats and one sheep) decided to check over our purchases.

She was more intrusive than the over-jealous door lady-you know the one who uses her little device to scan your receipt and then “spot” scans all your purchases to make sure you didn’t steal anything! We don’t know about y’all BUT we would rather go home than spend a night in jail over a bag of pistachios!
