I recently had the privilege to work with the amazing staff at on Culturally Relevant Teaching! We examined its three core components which says students should:
π€© Experience Academic Success
βπ½ Develop Cultural Competency
π€ Develop a Critical Consciousness
The teachers were then able to see examples of what that looks like in a real classroom and then develop their own ideas about what it could look like in their own classrooms this year. I canβt wait to see how it all turns out!!

Itβs always a joy to work with the amazing teachers of !! π©π½βπ«π¨π½βπ«
During our session together, we explored the roots of the current value systems that exist in our schools and the impact they can have on our children.
Then we discussed what it would look and feel like to adopt an African centered value system, like those exemplified by the Adinkra symbols of Ghana, and how it might shift the culture of their classroom and school. π€βπ½π«
I canβt wait to see the affect this will have on their students!!

Last week I had the pleasure of conducting a workshop with the Blacktastic staff over at . βπ½βπ½βπ½
The workshop was entitled, Designing an Afrocentric Authentic Assessment and it walked participants through the different types of formative and summarize assessments that exist and which ones were the most effective at activating student learning π§ .
The final task was for the teachers to design their own Afrocentric Authentic Assessment that they would deliver to their students in the comings weeks. I was blown away by some of their prototypes!
Whether it was teaching measurement by having students make their favorite recipe at home with their families, or teaching the different shapes by having students design new traffic signs to go in their neighborhoods, the teachers really got what it takes to link their assessments to real world application that have to do with the studentsβ history, culture and daily lived experiences. Bravo! ππ½
