"Sitting quietly, just breathing in and out, we develop strength, concentration, and clarity. So sit like a mountain. No wind can blow the mountain down. If you can sit for half an hour, enjoy sitting for half an hour. If you can sit for a few minutes, enjoy sitting for a few minutes. That is already good."

I am so grateful for this magical, life-changing week we spent in Japan with Justin B. Stein - Reiki Research exploring the historical and spiritual roots of Reiki with such a wonderful group of people from around the world. (If you look through his photos, you'll spot us standing on Mt. Kurama where Usui Sensei experienced "the one great Reiki." 🙏)

I had a truly life-changing two weeks in Japan, exploring the historical and spiritual roots of Reiki practice. And I can’t wait to share the energy and insights with you!
There is still space available in next weekend’s beginner-level Komyo ReikiDo class on June 6-7 at if you’ve been feeling led to learn this beautiful spiritual healing art to take better care of yourself and others. 🙏
This introduction to Japanese-style Reiki teaches you the basics of hands-on healing and spiritual self-care. As part of your training, you will learn about the Reiki Precepts and how to use them to support your mental and emotional well-being. You will also be introduced to Japanese spiritual concepts, spiritual lineage, and ancestral practice, and how all of they are relevant to Reiki practice (as well as your own life!) You will also learn how to do hands-on healing to support your health, as well as daily meditations to increase your vital energy.
In Japanese, “do” means ‘a way, or a path’, especially in context with a spiritual training or practice. The emphasis of Komyo ReikiDo teachings have always been on Reiki practice as a pathway to healing and a ‘gateway to spiritual awakening’. Enhanced healing ability comes naturally when we deepen our innate connection to the Universe.
Komyo ReikiDo was founded by Hyakuten Inamoto, a Buddhist monk who lives in Kyoto. It is a true Japanese-style Reiki that presents this spiritual healing art as it was understood and commonly practiced in Japan in the 1930’s. I have studied with Hyakuten Sensei multiple times since my initial training in 2010, and had the special opportunity to visit with him recently while in Kyoto.

Grateful for the profoundly meaningful opportunity to visit Saihoji Temple in Tokyo, where Usui Sensei's gravesite and memorial stone are located. Visitors are not always allowed to enter, and if so, may only stay for a few minutes.

It was very special to enjoy lunch with my Komyo ReikiDo teacher, Sensei. He was only briefly in Kyoto in between travels and Justin was able to arrange some time to meet up with him, which means so much to me! 🙏
As always, I'm reminded of one of Sensei's favorite teachings on Ichi-go ichi-e (一期一会) which translates to "one time, one meeting" or "once in a lifetime." We cherish the present moment, remembering that each encounter and experience is singular, unrepeatable, and treasured.

Yesterday, the Reiki History Pilgrimage Tour group visited Mt. Kurama (Kurama-yama), the birthplace of Usui Reiki Ryoho and where Usui Sensei experienced "the one great Reiki."
Kurama-yama is also said to be the home of Sōjōbō, King of the Tengu. (Tengu are mythical creatures from Japanese folklore who are seen as protectors of the natural world.)
We climbed up the steep mountain steps to Kurama-dera (the main temple) with its Kongoshō Six-Pointed Star in front. After a beautiful temple ceremony for our group that was led by a Buddhist nun, we walked to the area with the exposed cedar tree roots where it was believed Usui Sensei did his meditation practice. We did some chanting and Reiki share, which was so peaceful.
Deep gratitude to Dr. Justin Stein for bringing us to this place that is so sacred for Reiki practitioners, and for his in-depth knowledge of Japanese spiritual practices and history. 🙏✨️
