Trashwater is a non-profit providing innovative, clean water solutions through partnerships with communities in developing nations.

Trashwater uses education, filtration, and mobilization to maximize lasting change for those burdened by unsafe water. The simple fact is that most people in the world do not have access to safe drinking water. By "not safe" we mean it's potentially fatal or at the very least, unsafe. For many areas, it is not an issue of access to water, rather access to clean water. Therefore our solution is edu

Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak with our friend in Managua, Luis. He, his family, and Los Brasiles are safe for the most part for now but he said that it’s a very scary time and to please stay informed and pray. We will absolutely continue to do that bud.

At least 20 people died today, and 50+ were injured, as the government in Nicaragua began an effort to put an end to the conflict currently happening. An unfair fight that is being fought by government backed gangs and police officers (armed with semi-automatic rifles), against normal citizens (armed with rocks and mortars). This is day one after a speech by the president about ‘taking the country back.’

Day one.

Please pray.

The days to come have the potential to be very deadly and violent.

We have a good friend in Nicaragua who lives outside of the major cities and away from the conflicts and he has generously offered to open up his home to anyone who is seeking safe housing. If you are in need please DM us and we will put you in touch.

TW Director Josh here. You all know Nicaragua is very special to me. My NPO Trashwater has been operating there for 8 years and we have made so many dear friends there. They are in the midst of some significant upheaval right now. I wish there were more than thoughts and prayers to to be offered right now but sadly there is not. My buddy and TW co-founder is trying to make his way home so please hold him, my friend Luis, who lives there, and the people of Nicaragua in your heart and mind.

How often do we complicate things by overthinking them? For me, the answer is daily...at least. When it comes to the global water crises it's easy to get bogged down in the enormity of the problem and feel stuck not knowing what to actually do. But sometimes, we just need a minor shift in perspective. Use a week of vacation time to go see a place off the tourist track, make a donation to a water org whose mission you really believe in, or take a cold bottle of water to a homeless person. It doesn't have to be Nicaragua or Trashwater. Anything you can do to shift the way you see the problem and intersect resources and time with it is good for all of us.

Happy Monday! If you're anything like us you spent this past weekend soaking up the sun and being really, really hot (I'm talking to you especially Atlanta). Please stay hydrated out there and remember to do what you can who don't have access to safe, clean water like we do.

We all need it, we all share it, and we are all responsible for its future.

This is what the pipe looked like under the Boys Home in Managua. They are currently laying all new, PVC pipe which, in conjunction with the UV filter we provided will allow the boys and workers to drink safe, rust-free water from now on. In 7 years of working in Nicaragua we have seen pipes like this more times than not.
