Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo does not mark Mexican Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16th. Instead, it honors the Mexican army's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, during the Franco-Mexican War. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has transformed into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American communities.

Poshard to Illinois Democrats: 'Our messaging isn't working' for Biden Southern Illinois Democrat Glenn Poshard told party insiders that polls showing Trump ahead of Biden warranted a rethinking of the party's messaging as Election Day nears.

Thank you to all who attended the Workers’ Memorial ceremony tonight. We had a great turnout and many on hand to support families of those who lost their lives on the job. Thank you especially to Rev. Courtney Carson for the opening and closing prayers; to Tiffany Hall our candidate for Coroner as our speaker; and Jim Dixon on behalf of Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski. Lloyd Holman and Jim Taylor are to be thanked as well for all their efforts. Praying no more names are added to the memorial this year.
