AI CAN BUILD YOUR WEBSITE FAST. THE STRATEGY STILL HAS TO COME FROM SOMEWHERE.

AI can hand you a full-looking website in an afternoon now.

Not a mockup. The whole thing. Pages built, copy written, images in place and, depending on the AI website builder, a reassuring collection of SEO settings ready to go.

It genuinely looks like the full monty.

And in a lot of ways, it is.

It’s a real car. Four wheels, an engine that turns over, paint that isn’t primer gray.

The mistake isn’t thinking AI built you something. It did.

The mistake is assuming “finished” and “built for this particular business” are the same thing.

They aren’t.

# # AI made the building part dramatically faster

That’s a good thing.

Businesses are already using AI to automate repetitive work, analyze information, generate content, improve customer service and speed up processes that used to take days or weeks.

Website development is part of that same shift.

AI website builders can now create layouts, write first drafts of copy, generate images, build pages and handle pieces of the technical setup astonishingly quickly.

Even agencies that build websites professionally use AI to work faster.

We certainly do.

But speed exposes something interesting about website development: the typing and page building were never the hardest parts.

The slow part was figuring out what should be built in the first place.

# # Anyone can build you a car. The question is where you’re driving it.

Imagine two therapy practices.

One is in Omaha. One is in Detroit.

They could give an AI website builder essentially the same instructions and receive remarkably similar websites.

Same basic navigation. Similar service pages. Similar copy, with the city and practice name swapped out.

There may be absolutely nothing wrong with either website.

But those two businesses aren’t operating on the same road.

They have different competitors. Different local search results. Different customer populations. Different referral environments. Potentially different services people are searching for and different questions prospective clients need answered before they make contact.

That information doesn’t automatically appear just because a website has been generated.

Someone, or something, has to investigate it.

AI can absolutely help with that research too.

But first, somebody has to know that those are the questions worth asking.

# # “SEO optimized” can mean several very different things

This is where the distinction becomes particularly important.

An AI website builder may include useful SEO features such as page titles, meta descriptions, sitemaps, mobile-friendly layouts and settings that help search engines discover and understand the site.

Those things matter.

But they are the equivalent of making sure the car has oil, tires and a working engine.

They don’t tell you where to drive.

Search engine optimization also involves understanding what prospective customers are actually searching for, which businesses already appear for those searches, what Google is showing in the results, what information customers need and which pages give your business a realistic opportunity to compete.

Technical SEO helps make a website accessible to search engines.

SEO strategy helps determine what the website should actually compete for.

Those aren’t the same job.

# # Then there’s the terrain

Competition is only part of the problem.

A perfectly good car built for a quiet neighborhood street may be useless on a mountain trail.

Nothing is technically wrong with the car.

It was simply built for different conditions.

Websites work the same way.

A business that depends heavily on local Google searches may need a very different website structure from a business that gets most of its customers through referrals.

A company selling a complicated B2B service may need to answer entirely different questions than one selling a straightforward consumer service.

A business entering a crowded market may need deeper content and stronger differentiation than a company serving a highly specialized niche.

Two websites can look nearly identical sitting in the driveway.

Only once they hit the road do you discover whether they were engineered for the trip.

# # This isn’t really an AI problem

That distinction matters.

AI isn’t failing when it gives you what you asked for.

In fact, one of AI’s greatest business advantages is its ability to execute quickly once it has useful information, clear direction and access to the right data.

The challenge is deciding what information matters.

What does the customer need?

What are they searching for?

Who else are they considering?

What questions are keeping them from making a decision?

What does this website need to do besides exist?

Where does search fit into the way this particular business actually gets customers?

Those are strategy questions.

AI can help answer every one of them.

But “build me a website for my accounting firm” doesn’t necessarily contain enough information to produce the same result as researching the market, understanding the customer and then asking AI to help build a website around what you learned.

That’s the difference between using AI to generate something and using AI as part of a business strategy.

# # The valuable skill is increasingly knowing what to ask

For years, a large portion of the cost of digital work was tied to ex*****on.

Writing the copy. Building the pages. Producing variations. Moving information from one system to another.

AI is rapidly reducing the amount of human time required for many of those tasks.

That doesn’t make expertise less important.

It moves the expertise upstream.

The advantage increasingly belongs to the person who knows which problem needs solving, which questions need answering, which data matters and what a good result should look like.

Then AI can make getting there dramatically faster.

So if an AI website builder gives you a polished new website in an afternoon, that’s not something to be suspicious of.

It’s something to take advantage of.

Just don’t confuse the speed of building the car with knowing what kind of car you need.

Before you pull out of the driveway, there’s still one question worth asking:

**Was this website built for the road my business actually has to travel?**

What Does SEO Actually Cost? 03/24/2026

Most agencies make you sit through a discovery call before they’ll tell you what anything costs. We’re not going to do that. If you’re here, you want to know if we’re in the right ballpark before investing your time. That’s a reasonable thing to want to know.

Here’s what we charge, what you get, and what actually drives the price up or down.
