The Student Council for Exceptional Children, an affiliate of MCEC, is back at Grand Valley State University! Our main goal as an organization is to advocate for individuals with exceptionalities, and promote inclusion for all. As a new club, we unfortunately do not have a lot of funds to support the growth and development of our organization, so we are participating in Student Philanthropy Week at GVSU!
If you are able, we would sincerely appreciate any donation to go towards covering the dues of people with financial barriers, providing amenities at meetings, funding social events, contributing to our end of year symposium, allowing our eboard to attend the CEC convention, and more! If you aren’t able to donate, sharing this post means just as much! Thank you for your support💙

October is a month to recognize, learn about, and celebrate the disability community. These and other observances throughout the month recognize the experiences, contributions, and achievements of people with disabilities and the communities that support them.
This month and throughout the year, take time to learn, listen, recognize, and celebrate.

Michigan special educators, your voice matters!
The Michigan Department of Education is currently seeking public comment on proposed changes to the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE), including the creation of a new stand-alone Special Education Teacher endorsement.
The proposed endorsement would provide qualified educators with greater flexibility to work across multiple special education program areas and reflects recommendations developed through OPTIMISE’s Teacher Credentialing and Standards Action Team.
Michigan CEC encourages special educators, administrators, families, advocates, and other members of our special education community to review the proposed changes and share their feedback.
Public comment is open through October 16, 2026.
