What Independent Living Makes Possible...

Bill and Rhonda have watched countless foster teens grow up — including two who are now heading to college and are enrolled in NECCO’s Independent Living program. Independent Living gives teens aging out of foster care the stability, guidance, and the confidence to make decisions on their own.

In this 30 Years of Impact moment, Bill and Rhonda show that aging out doesn’t mean being alone. With the right support, foster youth can launch into adulthood with pride, purpose, and a future they never thought possible.

Bill & Rhonda: Changing the Narrative...

Bill and Rhonda shut down one of the biggest myths in foster care: that kids in the system are “bad.” After fostering more than 100 children, they’ve seen the truth — these teens are normal kids with normal emotions who ended up in foster care through no fault of their own.

In this 30 Years of Impact moment, they urge people to ignore the stigma, take the leap, and discover how fostering doesn’t just change a child’s life… it changes yours too.

Stepping Into Big Shoes: A New Case Manager’s Journey...

Kate describes how she first met Gail during an on‑call weekend and immediately recognized her as a highly experienced foster mom. Taking over Gail’s home—where six teenage girls live—initially felt intimidating, but Kate’s own experience raising a teen helped her feel grounded. When she stepped into the role, she focused on observing, listening, and honoring the routines the girls were already used to. By approaching the home with humility and respect, she built trust quickly. The girls opened up to her, and much of their early relationship was shaped by Kate simply being present, listening, and letting them lead the conversation.
