Jeff William Butcher

Crushed to hear of passing of an old Boston friend. Gabe was one of the folks that I connected with early on in the Boston bluegrass community. I loved hearing Gabe play whatever instrument he had in his hands at any given moment. He had humor in his playing. Always happy to pick and tell a story, teach a thing two, and follow up with some well timed punchline. Gabe always saw the humor, and celebrated a deep joy of life in even the hardest moments. We lost a great human, naturally talented hard working banjo player, and shining light in this strange, crazy world far too soon. I’m gonna miss you Gabe. We’re keeping that lantern lit for you here.

The next Gem City Sessions is up! Gem City Sessions are candid field recordings of Music in the Miami Valley. Live, off the cuff candid takes of songs from here. We went to a trail along the Little Miami near my house with some old Sycamore trees, (one of my favorite ones infact, which I am certain is a domicile for a family of particularly fancy racoons). It was hot, buggy, and we had a grand old time. Sometimes we have to search for songs, Sometimes songs happen to find us. “Xeniatown” is an off-the-cuff version of a song about sudden change, possibility in an uncertain future, the things we hold on to. and a song still in a state of final adjustments. A scene in a diner, like any other diner, in a small but proud Midwestern town, like so many out here. Not sure what to do with this one. Enjoy!

Who’s ready for the second song from Jeff Butcher’s session?

“Xeniatown” dropping on Saturday!

✨ A glimmer is a review of a song in advance of its Gem City Sessions release. ✨

"Follow the Honey" - Jeff Butcher - Gem City Sessions

Still feeling the energy from the show from Saturday. Grateful to get to sing good songs in the company of good friends that work on their craft. Some shows are truly special. Thanks to South Park Tavern for letting us play!
