When “Keep Looking” Isn’t the Answer | Caregiving & Disability 04/29/2026

There’s a point where “keep looking” stops helping.

Not because someone isn’t trying,
but because they already have.

In long-term caregiving and disability, there often comes a stage where the options aren’t unknown anymore. They’re already mapped.

When that reality isn’t recognized, people can be pushed back into searching for answers they’ve already spent years working through.

What’s often seen as “giving up” is something else entirely. It’s clarity.

This piece is about that shift and why missing it can turn help into friction.

If you’re living this, I think it will feel familiar.
If you support someone who is, I think it may help you see something more clearly.

When “Keep Looking” Isn’t the Answer | Caregiving & Disability When “keep looking” stops helping, what actually supports life in long-term caregiving and disability?

Jonnyism #6

“Close the door on that nature is too loud.”

Jonny started something new this week.

In addition to working with students in Speech & Language at Sac State,
he’s now part of the Neuro Physical Therapy clinic.

Today, the media department came to film a story on the clinic
and asked if they could include him.

He said yes without hesitation.

Not because everything is easy or smooth.
But because participation isn’t something he waits to feel ready for.

It’s how we build access.

And sometimes,
it’s how a room learns to expand.

Not every door is yours.
But sometimes… you check anyway.

This adventure was full - ocean air, new places, shared meals, and a group of people who just get it.

Access made it possible. Not perfectly. Not always smoothly. But enough to be there, together, in it.

Traveling alongside others with disabilities changes something.
Not because everything is easy, but because we’re not doing it alone.

Grateful for the space that made this possible.

Thank you Curb Free with Cory Lee and Wheel the World

This is what participation can look like.
Right now.

Puerto Plata, as we found it.

Not everything. Not even close.
Just what we could reach, notice, and be part of.

Cruising along with all of these incredible people for the Curb Free with Cory Lee/Wheel the World group cruise!
Virgin Voyages has a ton of wheelchair accessible rooms and everyone in this picture has one with a balcony! You will also find a lift at the pool (upon request), and the most friendliest staff in the business.
Today we’ve already enjoyed a few rounds of Bingo with a $1,600 jackpot, ate some delicious breakfast including made to order fried eggs, omelets and bacon, and High Tea. Next we have trivia, karaoke, dinner and a show!
And you know what the best part is?!?! We didn’t even have to find an accessible taxi! 😂♿️
