Running your financial reports is a good habit.

Actually reviewing them? That’s where they become useful.

Your financial reports can help you understand what’s happening behind the scenes in your private practice — how much you’re earning, where your money is going, and whether your practice is moving in the direction you want it to.

Take a few minutes each month to review the key reports we’re sharing in this post. Instead of just looking at the numbers, ask yourself:

Are my expenses increasing?

Is my practice as profitable as I expected?

Do I have enough cash available for upcoming expenses?

Is anything in these reports surprising me?

And remember: your reports are only as reliable as the bookkeeping behind them.

If your books are behind, inaccurate, or you’re simply ready to take bookkeeping off your plate, we’re here to help.

Most practice owners I talk to don't know whether their books are behind, wrong, or both. They just know they don't trust the numbers.

Behind means transactions haven't been recorded. Wrong means they have, but reconciliations, Jane deposits or payroll entries don't line up.

Either way, the fix starts with looking at the file. If you'd like clean books before year-end, book a call (link in bio).

On this Small Business Saturday, I have a small favor to ask 💙

Key Accounting is in the running for Best of Baldwin, and I'd love your nomination in two categories:
🏆 Best Accountant
🏆 Best Bookkeeper

It takes less than a minute:
1️⃣ Tap the link: https://gulfcoastmedia.com/bestof2027/ #/gallery?group=556734
2️⃣ Click "Nominate" next to Key Accounting in both categories
3️⃣ Done, thank you!

The more nominations I get, the better my chance of making the next round. Nominations close on October 7.

Supporting local means a lot to a small firm like mine. Thank you for being part of this community.

Has your QuickBooks gotten a little… messy? 😅

In private practices it usually looks like this:
✅ Jane deposits that don't match what hit the bank
✅ Merchant fees and refunds that never got recorded
✅ Payroll entries that stopped syncing
✅ Accounts that haven't been reconciled in months

A clean-up fixes the history and gets your books current, so you and your CPA can trust them going into 2027.

It starts with a quick look at your file. Book a call.

Three years ago today, I opened Key Accounting. 💙

I chose October 1st on purpose. It's the feast day of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, who taught the "little way": that ordinary, everyday work, done faithfully and with love, can bring us closer to God.

Bookkeeping is about as ordinary as work gets. Reconciling accounts. Matching deposits. Closing the month, then doing it all again. But from day one, I've seen this work as my little way to serve, and to bring a little peace to the chaos business owners carry.

In three years, Key Accounting has grown from one client to a small team that reconciles and reports on more than $70 million in our clients' revenue every year.

But what I'm proudest of isn't a number. It's the trust. Every client has handed me the financial side of something they've poured their lives into, and I don't take that lightly.

Thank you to my clients, my team, my family, and every CPA and friend who has sent someone my way. None of this happens alone.

Here's to the little way, and to year four. 🙏

Q4 is your final opportunity to make meaningful financial adjustments before year-end.

Before the quarter begins, take some time to review these key reports:

📈 Profit & Loss
Are you actually profitable so far this year? Review your income and expenses to see how your business is performing compared to your goals.

🗂️ Balance Sheet
Take a look at what your business owns and owes. Can your current assets cover upcoming short-term liabilities?

💵 Cash Flow Statement
Where is your cash coming from, and where is it going? Understanding your cash flow can help you plan for upcoming expenses and avoid surprises.

These reports can help you spot areas that need attention, adjust your goals, and make more informed financial decisions heading into the final quarter.

Not confident your reports are accurate? Good financial decisions start with numbers you can rely on. Let’s get your books organized before year-end.

Before spending money just to get a tax deduction, make sure the purchase actually makes sense for your business.

A tax deduction can help reduce taxable income, but that doesn’t mean every year-end purchase is a good financial decision.

Before making a large purchase, consider whether your business actually needs it, how it fits into your budget and cash flow, and whether the timing makes sense.

It’s also a good idea to talk with your tax professional before making a significant year-end purchase so you understand whether the expense qualifies for a deduction and how and when it may affect your specific tax situation.

Getting married can change more than your last name—it can also affect your taxes. 💍🧾

If you’re married on December 31, the IRS generally considers you married for the entire tax year. You’ll typically file using one of these filing statuses:

✔️ Married Filing Jointly
✔️ Married Filing Separately

If you changed your name or moved, make sure your information is updated with the appropriate agencies so your records are consistent when it’s time to file.

It’s also a good time to review your tax withholding. Combining incomes and other changes to your household can affect how much tax you may owe or receive as a refund.

Don’t wait until tax season to sort through the changes. Talk with your tax professional before year-end to understand how getting married may affect your specific tax situation and whether any adjustments should be made.
